As somebody who has had mine stolen, I am hoping this is what the guy does. He can paint it, swap VIN numbers or do anything else he wants. I will recognize it if I see it. Probably better for him to strip it for parts rather than risk my finding him.
Also, I assume most skis are stolen for $$ rather than recreation. You or I might have a blast riding a ski- but the majority of the population does not want one. They would rather have a couple thousand for the parts than buy a wetsuit, mix the gas and drag it to a lake where they risk running across the previous owner.
