Well, after 7 years had passed I had pretty much given up. Now my old blaster is sitting at my house. I got a call from a friend that said he was pretty sure he had found my ski. I sent him the vin and they matched. Another rider had picked it up on craigslist. None of the after market parts had been changed and thats what actually led him to believe it was mine. It was handled very cautiously and the other rider did the right thing (he didn't know it was stolen when he bought it) so the cops did not have to get involved. He had even called the DNR but it had dropped off the database after 5 years so they didn't show it as stolen. Funny thing is the person that sold it to him transferred my registration while it was still on the database. Way to do your job DNR ! Anyway so after a 4 year break from the sport after selling my other ski's, I find myself back in. Thanks to my friend for looking out for me. I also recovered the trailer.

Glad you have your ski back. What happens to the honest buyer that paid for the ski tho? Does he get his money back?
In all actuality and the eyes of the law he would be out the money. However he had bought the ski so cheap, Really really cheap. (should have been a red flag) that he was made whole in order not to destroy friendships and such. The statute of limitations was up, so he couldn't be charged with receiving stolen property ( not what we wanted anyway ). However its was still stolen property and it still goes back to its rightful owner. He would then have to sue the person he got it from.

It runs and is pretty much in the same condition as when it was stolen. Even still had the ocean pro sticker on the hood and the same registration number stickers. Only thing that has changed is it has a stock intake grate on it instead of the top loader that it used to have.

Its hard for it to be a red flag when it had been reg with the DNR since it had been stolen. Pretty sure the buyer checked with the DNR to see if had been stolen before he bought it and came up as NOT stolen.

Thats the problem with Ga. and other states you don't have to have a title/certificate of origin to register a ski. So technically after 5 years the ski can be registered and it doesn't show up as stolen to the DNR. If the ski is found then the police can reopen the case and place it back on the GCIC database. There is no protection for the buyer even though they thought they had purchased it legally. This is also a good reason to not purchase a ski that doesn't have a title/certificate of origin. You never know when somebody might be sitting out there with the title to that ski and had reported it stolen. I'll be honest, had this not been a fellow rider. It would have been handled much differently and I can't say that everybody would have been as nice. After all was said and done, nobody really lost anything which could have been a different case. The lesson learned is, don't buy a ski without a title even if you live in a state that does not require it.

That's messed up! GA needs to change that. That's one thing that makes me happy paying the ~$30 title transfer fee here in FL. Since 2002, we're even required to title OHV like ATVs and dirt bikes. FL wants their $$$. At least it has some side benefit to the owners.

Glad you got it back. That was my first ski...bought a new 95 Blaster. I still regret selling it.

The reason that DNR didn't show it stolen is because they didn't check GCIC. If they had, it would have shown up and we would have gotten it back sooner. I have calls into the Marine Theft Division to see why this fell through the cracks.

The real question will we be seeing any of you guys at Tanyard creek?

Its great you got your ski back. And I'm glad you guys were able to work it out.

On a side note, if my stuff is taken and its covered by insurance. I don't want to ever see it again. With my luck the insurance would want there money back.
