Stripped Driveshaft

Thanks for taking the time to view. I like to work on my ski, but I’m relatively new to it. I bought an old 1990 sj that had a j700a 61x put into it(b pipe, and a few other bolt on mods). It was cavitating off of sharp turns so I ordered a new impeller. After removing the pump/driveshaft assembly to prep for its arrival, I noticed the wear on the splines. I’ll be ordering a new driveshaft, but i do not know which to get (pre 2007 I’m assuming). Also, I was wondering if this has happened due to the age, or is there something I should be looking for in the midshaft/alignment? Thank you in advance :cheers:DE9D8D32-1545-47CC-AF96-BCC805004AC4.jpeg

You will need a 90-07 length SJ driveshaft.

Splines wear with use, but wear is also accelerated by bad alignment and also lack of grease from Orings inside midshaft wearing out/failing. You can see the 2 grooves worn into the driveshaft by the Orings and also by the midshaft itself on the driveshaft. Your skis pump and midshaft and engine were probably not aligned properly by past owner which is very typical.

Plus there is always some sand in the shaft tunnel that gets on the splines every time the pump is pulled. How many riders unbolt their engine, pull the mid shaft, and clean everything before they re install the pump???? I didn't at first but I do now. My spline wear is very low.

Great point. Ive emptied the hull to do just that. :cheers)
