I'd recommend using Hickory, should be pretty strong if you have the grain going the right way.

Oh, you said prototype....

I think it'd be awesome to have a crank built of wood, stained and polyurethaned, and sit it on my desk at work.

Not to be a downer but what about copyright infringement? It looks to me like you are basing/copying your part off someone else’s product. If the copyright has expired then more power to you, if not well… just my .02

its a crank for a superjet how much difference can there be on it

by the time you balance it there its going to be the same as every one elses anyway
there is not much you can do about it

Dude, he's got nothing to worry about. There's no laws protecting a crankshaft, even if he makes a dead nuts RAD copy.

sure i am just checking all the programing and making sure it all ok before it hits the market
I found one small error but i have a week off from my normal job in a couple of weeks

So i will be talking with my mill company then and making sure its all ok
it has to be nitrated for strength afterwards as well as the journels have to be ground as i cant mill them round enough to run a bearing correctly
so there is a few things to check out

So far i have made about 5 cranks out of wood just checking stuff out

I have a few other products on the computer i am looking at as well
There was an issue with my milling company and thats why things have taken longer than i expected
i am onto a new company and i will be hopefully better off with this one
it will cost me more in the initial start up
but i will end up owning all the drawings

Wax, make sure you have a nice radius on the stout of the crank where it meets the web. Whether it be a fillet machined in or just a good nose radius on your cutting tool. i have heard of some early stroker cranks that failed here due to the stress riser caused by the sharp corner.

Just what I have heard... but thought it was worth mentioning!
