Studding A Tire Tutorial

I buried one of my best iceracing buddies yesterday, 55, heart attack, fit and healthy and a total shock. He has skied for years and has a FX1, Rickter EVO, and a SXR. It really took the steam out of my iceracing enthusiasm, but then his wife told me how pumped he was to get iceracing with me this year, so I am building our track tomorrow for my friend Brian Morrison #97 in the video on page 1, Godspeed Brian!

I built the track yesterday, 18 turns and 2.1 km's long. It's a fun track but only 80 mph on the fastest straight where I usually like 90+ on my bike but there is very little snow so I can make some changes tomorrow. 6 guys made it out to ride and that isn't bad for our first ride. We have an awesome photographer but he couldn't make it out today, stay tuned, he takes great photos and is there almost every trackday.

I went back out with my plow and another plow truck, 2 hrs later the track was new again. Every tuner drifter kid in town knows we have made our track now, tracks everywhere on the pond, if they would stay on the track I would be fine but they keep blowing thru all of the edging and rutting up the track too!

That sucks, that's a lot of fuel for guys to wreck it for you.

I got out last weekend, Saturday was pretty soft and yesterday was pretty damn cold. I couldn't get acrossed the lake with out freezing my nose off. I had the wrong face mask. I just cruise around and goof off though.
That Motoz is pretty sweet for tearing around the lake.

I found that mode 1 ignition (soft) on the 450 hooked up the best.

Still getting used to the bike but it sure is a fun ride. Doesn't miss a beat when starting, even at -10 degrees! I only lasted about an hour or so out there though.

It is a beast, 500exc trailbike turned 610sx trackbike, but I still manage to get the inside line on everybody else. It developed a crazy miss the day before and I haven't figured it out but I still won all the heat races yesterday!

We finally got a track plowed today and rode, as we get older less and less come to ride(2 of us today). Badvinny you running what we call (Canadian tires) shaved lugs and taller screw head? My tires struggle when it gets slushy, didn't slow you down.

Yup, canadian Marcel Fournier tires, the slush was better than the regular powder build up for traction.
Our track is melting away like crazy again, may not have any ice this weekend dammit.

Chasing that 'miss' that developed has been costly. Coil, plug, cap have been replaced, checked the wiring 3 times, checked stator, fuel injector, filters, pick up, and still no go. Had it to the ktm dealer for the dealer tool check, couple codes but not it. I let them have a few hours with it and they found a tiny little wire rubbed thru by the headstock, coil trigger wire to my Vapor speedo, it was expensive but I hope it does the trick!

Going to give it a try today to see if the bike is fixed,... electrical gremlins!!!!!!
Our warm weather melted the track and then it got real cold but all cars that drive on it all day made it real rough as it refroze. Blizzarding since supper yesterday so I have to plow anyway, I am thinking of going to a new destination we have used a few years ago but it's 25 minutes more driving for everyone, a new virgin track would be sweet!

No hurry on the plowing Badvinny your 630mi northwest of me and I though our winters were long, you must be able to ice ride thru mid May. Plus your summer ski season must be short? Yet hink320 finds a way to ride ski almost all year

I didnt ride yesterday, but I did plow for 2.5 hours, it was blowing 25 mph wind and kept snowing overnight so another hour this morning and we should be riding by 1pm.
Hink is a lucky guy because he lives right by a coal fired power plant that keeps the river water warmish all winter, he is about 4 hours south of me but he does come here often.

I saw this on facebook and wanted to share it. It's totally been me this winter (minus the jumps and whoops and skills).
Ice fishing then riding, I cant say I catch my limit though.

RIP Donny Schmit- Never Forgotten!
