wanted to see if any guys out there have some experience and or advice on avgas vs race/pump..dont want to make this into a which is better thing

here is my situation i recently got a new to me ski in january thats set up on avgas runs really good on it, no complaints that way but i don't think ill be able to get avgas or it will be a huge pain to get(dont even know what type its set up to run)

back in the day i ran 50:50 race/pump 32:1oil in my dirt bikes and i was wondering if a ski set up for avgas would be ok on this setup? i know avgas has a different rating system so i wasn't sure how to compare

i know what your first question will be why not ask the builder right? not really an option for this one and with our season coming up really fast id like to get an idea how drastic the jetting, timing differences you guys might come up with and ill cover them all..

my good friend is placing a order to greateryamaha and said he will get me some crank seals so i was planing on pulling this thing apart to find out the jetting because apparently when running av your supposed to run larger jets due to the density of it..

i've always had good results asking you guys questions so i thought id put this one out..

i guess what i'm asking is how would you guys fuel/time this thing?

Send a PM to Pat Bogart & I'm sure you can get it (Curve/setting). avgas is 100Oct, but has Low Lead. If you can buy race gas with 100oct that would be perfect, if you can find 110 race gas mix it 50/50 & I think you would be fine. When I first talk to Chuckie about this motor & changing domes to the pump gas he said the timing was fine, just make sure your not over loading the pump. I would say with the 13/18 in it would be fine. I ran a 14/19 & 13/18 with that set up on avgas & the 14/19 was a little better on the avgas. IMO

I wouldn't pull the motor apart, Chucky just did seals & inspection about 30 gallons before you bought it.

Hope that helps some.... Remember that motor's set up for freeriding, not racing from one side of the lake to the other.

is there different type's of avgas? i read that there was 3 different type's and ive also read that they made them common..what were you using?

i can get race gas up here but its about $90 for one of those small cans and i was worried if the jet size would be alright

i would eventually like to get this ski down to pump gas but i would also like to ride it a few more times the way it is brappp

There is only one type of AvGas that is run in skis - 100LL.

thanks man

i heard they wouldent sell it up here unless you have a plain..

i would like to get a huge drum and buy like 500 worth of the stuff if i can or this motor is going to cali to get re tuned.. i dont really have alot of time so it'll really blow if i have to ship it out

oh man DONT take that thing apart.....josh just had it pulled completely down and inspected!

that thign is good for MANY hours as it sits....find yourself a 55 gallon drum and a SMALL airport that will sell to you..shouldnt be that difficult

FYI, I have been running a 3:2 AvGas/Premium mix for a few months now. I have a self-serve pump within 1 mile of my home.
When I go somewhere else with the ski, I look up airports nearby.
I could also run a race gas mix like 1.5:3.5 110/Premium.

Av gas can be a pain if you travel otherwise im sure you could find it there. I was just asking about the timing on that motor, post it up when you find out or decide on the static and curve. I just mix 110 leaded when I run flats so if I wana run pump 93 in the surf in a pinch the jets are the same.thats the only disadvantage to the lighter av fuel, once you jet for it your stuck with it. it cost about the same or less to run 2:3 110/93 to net 101 as it does 100LL 100%.

i hear you guys it would be a shame to change the setup its a killer ski the way it is

as far as the avgas goes i think there might be different laws (can & us)because i called a couple local airports and they said the wouldent sell it to me.. im hoping its because they are smaller airports with only enough gas for people that are members.

Really? This is interesting.
My jetting stayed exactly the same when I went to AvGas.

i know junkyard is way too polite to answer this...

he has asked already and not got conclusive answers, i know its pretty frustrating

maybe its been bad timing in asking for the info or something... i also know he took his time before posting this and has worded this thread in a way as to not insult anyone

maybe chuck will see this and pipe in with the info needed?

Does this engine still have the MSD TL dual channel just like we set it up?
50/50 110-112 oct. race with 91-93 oct. premium unleaded will be fine.
If the weather is cold, just go up to a 1/4 more turn out on the high speed adjuster, and bump out the low 1/8.
If you have the pump gas domes, put them in when going to straight 91-93 oct. premium fuel.
If your a little concerned about making a mistake with this engine, just change the dip switches on the back of the MSD on the start retard feature to adjust the timing @ 4500 RPM start retard.

why is it you are always asking these setup type ?s with no answers.2 builders one directly above, sent us av gas jets that were slightly diff for the same ts setup and another than pump or race fuel............lighter specific gravity fuel flows through them at diff rate.could you turn the screws more than you should to make it work, prolly, would it be perfect, prolly not

junkyardj, could you post up that tl curve and static when you check it?

I wasn't aware I asked a question. :dunno:

Perhaps carb setup has something to do with it. Chuckie uses modified 46SBNs, I do not.
Oxygenated fuel needs different jetting for sure.
Ultimately, go with the jetting the builder recommends for the application.

See, all you had to do was ask, lol

Chuckie's the man

Don't screw up my (your) ski, that boat rips and that motor is killer. Just remember that motor hits like that because Chuckie built it..... That's Xscream love.. Set up & tuned by Xscream....

That's why our motor's are just crazy sick, smooth hitting, run perfect, etc. Every time we hit the start button

Go to your local small airport (SMALL AIRPORT) go see the line guy or small shop & see about buying some avgas. It's not hard to get, but calling around people are going to say no. My local airport won't sell to the public...

Matt I was also inferring from the total loss timing curve thread.

Josh.. did you ever get a chance to double check that right side switch at s2 ? or confirm static?
