Retriever seems like the best way to be safe. Depending on depth be sure to have enough tag line.

Doubt it.Can you drag it back up by the retriever?
Probably because both GPS and Cellular signals do not work underwater.

All I want is last known location where it dipped under. Hardest part of finding something underwater is knowing where it went under lol.

That would be sweet. Hook up a winch and good to go.Can you drag it back up by the retriever?
Pics!!!I put 100' of 3mm Kevlar line (800 lb test) in a stuff sack in my dvx. Tie one end to the engine bed plate and the other end up the handle pole to a clip under the handle pole. If it sinks, unclip the free end of the rope and you have a leash back to the ski. From a boat, you have a good chance of pulling it up.
If that's all you want get a waterproof case and drop a pin on your phone.

Totally did this. July 4th was looking for booty on the high seas off of Waikiki, and a rogue wave took out our ship...I mean floaty raft. I had to go to shore while retrieving washed over bags then come back out, and found lots of other peoples stuff floating in but not mine. Borrowed a random phone and tracked my bag and it seemed "in the area of the raft". Came back out and it was safe and sound .
