Super Jet sunk ski

Was out riding skis today and let a buddy ride one of my skies. Well long story short he some how managed to get water in the motor :( I don't know how many times he tried to start the thing before I got to him. brought it back to shore flipped it, got all water out, got it started and rode this piss out the rest of the day. MY question is what kind of damage could he have done to the crank while he was sitting in the water trying to start it?, god knows how many times. The ski did not loose any power and ran fine after, I'm just over paranoid that he might have bent the crank? from trying so many time to start the thing with water in the motor, please tell me i shouldn't be!

As long as you started it and ran it after it should be good. It's when the water sits there that causes the damage.

Oh yeah that was the first thing i did right away. Just worried that the crank got bent from it being turn over so many times, before i got all the water out. To me the piston rings would go before the crank would bend ??? I just read all these post about people sinking their skis and then a couple of rides later the crank lets go. Luckily this happened in fresh not salt water.

My guess is that you're probably fine. Did it actually still spin with the plugs in? When I sunk my squarenose, the starter could'nt even begin to spin it...I let off the start button ASAP to not burn up anything electrically from the current draw.

As long as it was run hard for a good 15-20 minutes afterwards, you are probably fine. My square has been running fine ever since...

Some advice though: pull off the carbs and clean the fuel pump out...the pulse line likely threw water up into the fuel pump.

Also, I lost a reed valve shortly after...not sure if it was related or not. Check them to be safe when the carbs are off...

Aramis, it would turn over a couple of times then just stop... like it locked up. Once all the water was out it turned over fine. Thanks for the advice on the pulling the carb i will go do that right now........ I just replaced my reeds too :( Does anyone know of an easy way to check if the rods bent? our any tail tail signs? I'm not looking to do a tear down, well tell at least winter. but at the same time i dont want to causes more damage/ get stranded on the water.

okay cool, i also read that you can look at the sleeves and tell ? by looking for diagonal markings on the sleeve caused by the piston twisting from a bent rod? As far as vibrations i didn't feel any more then usual.

When in doubt, Throttle-out.

If they are the stock metal reeds, they are probably bent. If they are carbon, you miiiiiight be lucky. With water being relatively 'non-compressible' (unlike air), the pressure from the piston moving downward will be directly applied to your thin reeds.

The same thing happened to a fellow rider of mine, from which he blew his whole top-end from running lean. Portions of his reeds were essentially stuck open... Check them with a bright LED light or flashlight of some sort.
