Super jet hull question

Location

I've been riding a Yamaha 701 RN 2004 super jet that I love. I do not race, use in lake just jumping wakes and spinning around. Looking to buy another , found 2009 super jet, but see that the hulls changed in 08. Anyone know how much that changed the ride? I like that it feels loose and skids across the water, so am concerned to read of hull change.
Thanks for any advice!

08+ hulls bite hard in corners. If you want to feel loose, definitely stick with 96-07 because that sliding out sensation is pretty much completely gone on new hulls.

Darn, I was afraid of that. Thanks a ton for saving me some $ and time in making the purchase. Will holdout for one between 96-07.

Do you have the opportunity to test ride the 09? You might like it.

+1 I agree you should really ride one, its a totally different experience. You'll find that it rails corners wide open, but if you're going slow trying to turn quickly back into the wave of a setup wake after making your "U".. good luck, its like trying to maneuver a freight train. The old boat just turns way faster in that aspect. 96-07 are awful on buoys though. In the end It's still a superjet, still way better than sxr for messing around, and you'll have a ton of fun rec riding it after awhile.

i had a 08 and hated it
didn't steer good & slow speed wobble

I have pre 08 steering and pole on my 08 RN so it steers well but the low speed wobble is the main complaint I have with it. If you could find someone with a 08+ then it would be better to ride one and make your own judgement.

I know I will like it, :) , but I want to like it as well as the 04 super jet I already ride. A friend found it for me in Tulsa, so too far for me to test ride and he does not ride. Owner is also asking $5500 for it, it looks really clean, but I'm feeling like that is on the steep side. You all are very helpful, glad I joined this little forum.

Ok as a newbie here, I'll ask a few more questions as I read through the replies.
We typically ride on a lake, being served up a very nice wake from our wakeboard boat.

By "wobble" do you mean hard to stay balanced at slow speeds? Like when turning around to approach next wave?

Do any of your sj's have foot holds carved into the sides of the back? This feature is not mentioned in the spec sheet I found online.

Going super fast is not my goal. I am 113lbs, so balancing this thing is not a problem. I like to spin around and jump out of the water, and jump. So any advice is good advice. I know I don't know what I don't know.

Lastly, I know the thing will likely break down and hope to learn to work on them as needed (with help from knowledgable friends) but does there exist a good "how to site" for the super jets?

Many thanks!

When you are going slow, it "chine walks" like it doesn't know what edge to be on. For a newbie that hasn't ridden much, its very noticeable like something is wrong with it. The entire body of the ski rolls from side to side. It's not uncontrollable or anything like that, just a few degrees of movement back and forth. And it's sort of annoying on glassy water. The sensation goes away with a little chop on the water.

I don't have footholds on my 2014 cus its a race boat, but I do on my squarenose (same hull bottom as 96-08 roundnose) which are a great mod for the type of riding you're doing.

This is the site for "how to" if it breaks down, good luck! Most things that break have been documented on here how to diagnose the problem and fix it, just type in the issue on google followed by x-h2o and theres a good chance you can solve it. If not, make a thread.

I have an 04 and love it. I rode a 2013 and I felt like I had never been on a standup before. Awful.

Bought a new '17 this year and feel like I'm relearning everything all over again. I've been riding stand my SN for 8 years. Maybe it's because I'm so used to my SN. Never been really hurt on a stand up until I bought this damn ski.
