Glad you got it back! I'm still looking for my hood, but i was able drag the ski in by the pump. Even with foam it will go down, but at least it will give you about 20 minutes or so to get it in. Mine was in 20ft also, scares the hell out of a guy. Congrats on the recovery!

I'll probably never find my hood , but I'm still searching. Today -17 out, using cheap fish tv camera/ ice auger.

Here's about where I lost it. I'm not sure where it came off, because when I came up from underneath the water and my boat was going down.
I was out by myself trying to tune my wet pipe and I didn't fasten the ratchet strap properly, my bad. I wont be doing that again.

So what's the damage to the motor? Good work on getting the ski back. We nearly lost one in the surf over in the UK last summer due to losing a hood....My mate was clinging to it for dear life hahaha.

Every surf rider in the group must carry a tow rope, not just one out of 10. It also has to be easily accessible or its useless.

We wear tow belts. We get a piece of rope and 2 stainless clips. We wrap it around our waist twice and clip the 2 clips together (rope is tied to the clips to make the belt snug when clipped). This makes a tow rope about 6' long. They do not float. Everyone wears one.

Thats what i use. Got my ss carabiner from jetmaniac

The reason the ski even had a issue is because Seth left his exhaust hose loose. The 2nd wave he jumped the exhaust hose came off and filled the engine bay with exhaust and water. I'm sure a through hull exhaust hole did not help....

Why not add a few pieces of foam floaty so that they don't sink. Just my .02. I have lost a few sets in the short period waves here in MI.

Its a good idea, but what kind of foam would work? My belt fits very snugly. A pool noodle or similar could work good of I carried it on the ski, but I don't know what could be used to make a belt float.

I have lost a few ropes with those sweet jetmaniac's clips, then I wrapped that floaty on. Since then never lost my tow rope again.

When I wrap the rope around my waist, I keep the floaty in the back. Does not bother me a bit.
8 bux is a cheap insurance against losing your rope.

Take a pool noodle, cut into 4inch pieces, and slide it over the rope. We do this and then wrap it around our waist still. You don't need too many to make it float.

I almost sank a kawi i have last year. shotty hull repair broke loose and I barely made it back in 100' deep water. I wonder how much of a floatation device youd need to keep one from sinking. Lets say you had a co2 raft and in the event of a sink you activate it and it keeps your ski from sinking to the bottom. I like the rope idea, could some heavy duty 200 or 300lb fishing line with a floatie on one end be enough to pull it back to the surface? I dont know the weight of these when sunk but I imagine it wouldnt be more than 100lbs

The weight of the hull sunk? It's far more than the ski is when it's dry. Add up to 200lbs on top of normal weight!
I would go the pool noodle route

My belt fits very snugly.

I got chubby, and now it doesn't fit at all.

Neither does my wet suit either now that I think of it.

I could make a new rope but that sounds like work. I could buy a new wet suit but that would require me to go to work.

I think that is the attitude that caused this problem. I should do something about it.

I got it...

I'll find a skinny friend.
