Superjet 2005 struggles (startup)

Hello Fellow riders.

Got myself another superjet, from 2005. Took it out a couple of times, started very smooth, and did what he had to do just perfect. Today i went out, and also de SJ did his job. I fell one time, kill cord came off, tried to fire it up again, and all it did was click very fast. Engine does not rotate. Now i know that this often is the solenoid, and that this is located in de electrical box. But when i got Home, tried to start, still clicking. Hour later, didnt do anything, no click. Suddenly, i messed around withbatterycables and it turned the engine, but it seemed that it runs poorly. (NOT SURE, I STOPPED IT) what could be the problem and where should i look? An extra ground cable? Does this Mean a wire between the -pole of battery connected to a blank piece of metal under the cowling?

And second, Im having trouble reaching the electrical box. 2 Bolts are at the side?? But cant reach them with my wrench. Does the engine Have to come out? That would be a pain inthe.....

You think the problem is that simpel? I Mean sure it is weird that it is suddenly starting again, but isnt it the solenoid going bad? It was clicking very loud, and thats what relais should do right?

Use a deep socket or a regular socket with a short extension. If the nuts are corroded on, you can remove the dash to remove the 4 bolts holding the bracket in.

If it works after messing with the cable, you probably were engaging the solinoid but too low voltage to engage the starter. Trying new cables is a simple test. Do what jetjase said.

Could be dirty terminal on battery or earth or live to starter , take leads off battery and give them good clean with sandpaper and re fit then follow earth lead from battery to starter and make sure it's on tight and not lose or hanging on by few strands or wire ?? Can be a fiddle to do with stock exhaust!! Try this before touching ebox it's more likely one of these

One thing to think about is that your battery cables are 10 years old. They might look ok but they might be deteriorated or corroded under the sheathing. It would be a good idea to just replace both the positive and negative. You definitely don't want this to happen out on the surf.

Are you sure your battery is getting recharged?

Similar thing happened to me recently. Ran fine for an hour, got back to the dock and all it would do is make a faint buzzing sound in the ebox. Replacing the battery alleviated the problem for a couple weeks, but now it's back. And if I let it sit for an hour after it dies, it eventually starts up again just like yours.

I'm thinking there must be something wrong in the charging system since the problem went away with a fully charged battery but came back after riding the ski a few times...

Thanks for replying. Yesterday Same happened. I Will try your suggesties btw. But yesterday Same happened, First clicking, then nothing, then engine worked. But when it did nothing, i noticed when i pressed the start button, a littlebit of smoke coming of the positive pole of the battery. Should this Go with bad cabling?

Sounds like cables 13 volts trying get through a few strands of cable .
Or another poss is bendix getting stuck ?? Of faulty starter ! Had same problem with starter before

The starter could be bad and drawing too much power and smoking the cables.

However, as others recommended I would probably try new cables first. I like OEM but they are a few clams.

I know this is an old post... but I'm having similar issues. My 2014 superjet solenoid is clicking. Was running fine until I stopped for a bit at the beach, then would not start or turn over.

I've tried 2 new batteries, a new starter, new solenoid, and cleaned up terminals. I've traced the circuit with a multimeter and I know I'm grounded. (I also have a 2020 superjet that is a couple months old, so I've been testing parts).

Any insight on this would be extremely helpful. When it broke down at the beach I thought I locked up the engine. Luckily that was not the case.

I had problems like these before and it was a bad broken ground cable below the exhaust manifold on the starter bolts. There is way to check by bypassing, installing another temporary ground cable from battery to motor see if thats the problem. The positive may also be loose and these connections get overlooked as they are out of site.

Long Beach Local provided good feedback.

Clicking and having tested multiple solenoids (OEM?) seems to indicate it is OK.
I would suggest testing each part individually. New battery cables seem to be the last item you haven't tried?
