replacing the spark plugs noticed that one of the top nipples the "boot/connector" was taken off and the other was left on..went to my local jet ski shop and they say 9/10 times you take it off..how correct is this?

Thanks ahead of time

Those need to be on the top of the plug because that is what the plug wire end connects to. Whoever told you that they are not needed gave you bad information.

That aluminum terminal nut will also come loose over time and cause intermittent spark issues. They also vibrate and coat the inside of the plug boot with aluminum dust and cause poor connections.

I highly recommend either buying new plugs and putting thread locker on the terminal nut and snugging it tight, or buying solid top plugs.

The solid top plug to use for stock heads is the NGK 6715 which is a BR8HS Solid.
Sadly they do not make a B7HS solid but the B8HS/BR8HS also works on our ski.

They are $1.43/ea on Rockauto, I keep a bunch of new ones on hand. Had a "dud" plug recently on a ski that sunk that decided it would not spark no matter what. Dropped in a new one and good as new.

Solid top BR8HS = good
