Super Jet superjet desperate - spark no start

Does anyone know how easily the flywheel should spin by hand. It takes a bit of muscle to turn and doesnt turn freely. What could be causing this?

Can you turn the motor over freely without the plugs? By freely you should be able to reach under the coupler cover and spin it with the strenght of a couple of fingers.

With the plugs in it should not turn easily...due to adequate compression. With plugs out you should be able to spin/turn the engine over, with the flywheel, without much difficulty. A worn out starter will not turn an engine over with enough force. It's usually a bushings or bearings problem. I've never rebuilt a starter. I would rather just buy another one, but keep the old one for parts.

To diagnose water ingestion, you need to either pull the head off or remove either the exhuast or carbs and look through the exhuast or intake ports and look for water corrosion on cylinder walls. The real deal is to pull the head and cylinder and look into the cases at the crank. I don't think you have water ingestion causing a water/vapor lock scenario. If you're scared of water ingestion bath the inside of the cylinder walls with WD40 (through the plug holes or intake/exhaust ports), leave plugs out, and replace starter and turn the engine over to coat the internals.

Thanks again. That's exactly the scenario harder to turn with plugs in and easy when out. I ordered a new starter, lead wires and gaskets. Question. What can I use and where can i find yhe tool to remove and reinstall the flywheel because I have a new bendix to install. I also have a new impeller and need a shaft holder. You guys are absolute life savers.

Dont order the SBT one. It didn't fit the superjet yet it was supposed to. I just got a harmonic balancer puller from AutoZone (free tool loan) and 3 metric bolts from the hardware store.
You will also want to get a coldfusion flywheel holder, unless you want to do the rope trick.

Get with Jetmaniac for parts and gaskets. I use the rope trick but the flywheel lock is nice. I bought my flywheel pulled from Northern tool. I bet harbor freight has a cheap one. Think I paid 30 or 40.
