Superjet engine\twin carb swop

A friend has a superjet with a badly damaged hull for sale. Wondering if any of you guys have fitted a superjet engine with matching twin carbs to your fx1. Is it a simple job to swop them out , or is there more to it than that , will it make much of a difference in performance over the standard fx1 engine , and do you think this would be worth the hasstle ? My present setup is working well , but more grunt would be nice , and the price is rite. I am considering having a go at the swop as a Winter project...... Any advice appreciated. (Thanks)

The swap is fairly easy and will not be a night and day difference. yes you will have better carb response with the dual setup if they are tuned right. but just putting the engine in will not be the end fix. now if a 62t bottom end is going into the fx1 you will need his electronics or have to swap your 61x fx1 stuff over to his engine and the cdi should be changed.. a 61x flywheel needs a 61x stator as a 62t flywheel needs its matched 62t stator follow? BUT even swapping the engine over to a later model still leaves some changes desired. If not already, look into having the prop replaced with skat-trak swirl unit. ( in the stock 122 mm pump ) then have your cdi modded or replaced with a msd enhancer or protec unit, increase your rpms for the prop and get the pump to perform better ( this goes for either engine you chose to run, his or yours ) if you run his engine and you have stock exhaust parts you should be safe. if you have a bpipe that is manifold matched to your 61x cylinders, make sure he has 61x cylinders on that engine and the bolt holes will match and not have to be alter or drilled out.

What's your current setup now in the fx1? And what kind of $$ are u looking at speeding to go to the dual carb sj motor.
At the moment the engine is stock apart from a 46mm carb , boyesen duel stage power reeds and a protect exhaust. Other mods include Blowsion 144mm jet pump , 13/18 skat trak impeller , pump tilt kit , Tubbie Destroyer sponsons , a pair of rule bilge pumps and a few other minor mods. I hope to pick up the wrecked superjet for around 600-800.

So essentially your not out much cash if u get It and part out what u don't need and the 61x short block. Essential your just upgrading cases and converting to dual carbs. I don't see u gaining a lot of performance by making the Swap but if you have the time and willingness to sell off all the extras, than you'll be into a better base motor for future engine work or bigger dual carbs, etc, for not much if any $$ out of pocket. keep in mind you could also just buy 62t cases and dual 38.s and not have the hassle of parting out what u don't need or just send your cylinder out for porting, look into a head and msd enhancer and you'll be farther ahead for performance than just swapping to 62t cases.

Just my opinion...I personally don't think it would not be worth the hassle. If your looking for more oomph I'd look into a head, msd enhancer and cyl porting, but your more $$ out of pocket. I am a fan of the 61x motors and single carb, they work well for what they are...things really depend on your budget and what future plans you want to do.

Thanks for the advice. I have the ski now for a couple of years and I love it. I looked up "FX1 ski" on facebook and came across this dude in a river , pulling backflips and barrel rolls on his fx1 like it was a piece of cake. Where do I begin to try that out , it looks nuts.. Check it out...

I got to compare my fx1 with dual carb motor to my buddy's with a single 61x both skis had pump conversions. There was not a major difference at all. I have road some strong hiting single carbs with the right cylinder porting. Flat water freestyle will call for a alot more power. I can't really recommend to much in that area as I mainly ride surf.

Thanks for all the advice guys , I think I will stay away from the wrecked superjet ,
save up my pennies and lash out on a new ada head and if I can run to it , a b pipe. Will I have a problem with the revs bouncing off the limiter with either of these mods , and how would I go about sorting that out. ?

I gota 62T in Mine.... Stuffing the Dry Pipe in required a little cutting here and there.... But the performance is well worth it...
