My X2 manuals says that teh prop should be torqued ot 72 ft-lbs. I normally use a 1/2" drive breaker bar and a cheater to take them off. Torque wrench to put them back on.

No kidding, you dont say. At one point in time we all learn something new...... the 10' cheater bar was back in 02-03. But even still it takes more than a 15" wrench, hell, my Air IMPACT does not like them. My SXR prop can be taken off with just a ratchet and a wrench, done that at the boat ramp a few times. Much easier than any SJ pump.
That's because Kawasaki's are better built boats:bananalama:

Nice write up Shonuff!
Are the rubber gloves really needed?:icon16:

Prop Swap on a SXR 15 minutes tops.
Prop Swap on a SJ 3 beers, and 30 minutes.......... OH, I will go home to change props on a sj, not worth it on the boat ramp!!!!!!!!!!

We must be doing something different. Once I install a prop I've NEVER needed more than a wrench to remove it. They even come off with two wrenches at the lake when a vise isn't available. I have had to do some weird things to get one off if I wasn't the one that it installed it.

To help in the prop removal at the boat ramp/beach deal, weld the shaft holder tool to your hitch for an instant vice.
Works great every time and made prop tweaking a snap back in the couch days.

Great thread, anyone seen something similar for the sxr? I'm about to take mine off for the first time and could use some guidance. Not keen to follow the yam instructions :nono:

If targeting~45 ft lbs. Is your wrench 1 ft long? Apply about 45 pounds perpendicular at the end of the wrench.

45lbs on 1 ft long leverage = 45 ft lbs.
45lbs on 2 ft long leverage = 90 ft lbs.

He is asking how to apply his torque wrench when using a combination wrench.

Might be a dumb question but what do you use to torque the prop if you slip a wrench over the drive shaft and on to the prop?

I torque impellers goodentight with the ol double wrench combo. . Be sure to use nickel anti seize and you will never have a problem removing it in the future.

http://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0380 I use one of these when I need to use a wrench.

To elaborate on what mbrick was saying, here is a good video to watch.

Ah, I interpreted his question as to how to gauge the torque with the wrench. So I suggested weights to get close.
If I did a lot of impellers I would make up a wrench to torque wrench adapter and have the torque wrench 90 deg to the adapter.

I like the snap on wrench and snap on tools in both of your resources. :D
