Superjet insight

Hey guys looking at picking up this superjet this weekend. It does need a bit of work to get it going but was just wondering if there’s anything in these pictures that jump out to you as a reason to avoid it?

What’s his asking price?

Any derelict ski will always need a lot of work. Don't pay more than you could easily get for the large parts or you will end up with too much money in it.

What’s his asking price?
5800 cdn

Here are all the details I know on it
Owned for a long time
Pole was $2000
Has ride plate
Has intake grate
Has sponsons
Has B pipe
Aftermarket bars
Aftermarket grip
Foot holds in the front and back
Wedge under turf
Ported engine with fresh top end
Engine has not been run (top end is brand new)
62t engine with dual carb
Lots more I can’t remember

“Carbs were just cleaned.
Carbs will need to be dialed in with the pipe. I have not run it and can not guarantee anything aside from that everything is there and there is a lot of value in it. Just needs love and time.”

2000 dollar pole!!! Must be made of gold! Lol.
One thing with buying skis is you can never trust a stranger on what’s done to the parts you can’t see (for example porting).
I’d say for a little more you could pick up much nicer of a ski with way less headache or potential problems . Like kevbro said you should take the slightly less than average value of the big parts and keep that in mind. To me in a NORMAL market that would’ve been a 3k plus ish ski as it sits.
Paint condition looks rough from pics but maybe it needs a buffing.

If you do buy it post a build thread!!

You need to question why it has a new top end. Did something fail that caused the top end to need rebuilt? Was the problem fixed? (will the owner tell you the truth?) Is the crank bearings toast too and weren't checked?

Figure worse it will need a new crank (SBT crank $300)
New gaskets and seals ($120)
New carb rebuild kits (Mikuni 100$)
Pump and midshaft bearings might need replaced (oem $120)
Impeller might be toast ($100-300)

And since you are the own that needs to put it all together not knowing what it needs. I would feel comfortable paying around 3k for it.

Also, after looking at the zipties on hardwall waterline and wtf he’s got going on with the ground cable coming off the Cyl base bolt, id be worried he’s the one who put the brand new top end on it. Lol
Grips are also clapped out tell him that’s 50 off the top too.

He said it never got reassembled because life just got to busy. Allegedly just needs the carbs put back on and tuned, fuel tank and battery hooked up and should be good to go.

Stock beat up 550s are selling for 2800 here (Canadian dollars) there’s just not much around here so prices are high?im not really sure but Last superjet I was looking at here sold for 7k

This ski appears to have a lot of issues. why is the ebox dangling open? Just needs carbs tuned is a euphemism for larger issues. You have to assume the entire ski might need rebuilt. Ski season can be short in Canada so consider that if you’re in a rush to get in the water. Looks ridden hard and put away wet. I’d pass unless you can get it for ~ 3200 USD.

Dealer cost on those cast rrp poles was $630. New top end with what pistons? Wsm? Sbt? Ported by who? Some kid with a dremel? Usually when I read the listed parts and description by the seller, I can instantly tell if he built it or bought it that way and if he knows what he's talking about. They usually bought it that way and have no idea what they are selling. If the seller says the ski has any issues, you must assume it's junk and pay accordingly. Assume it's minor and you may buy junk.

I agree with Buzzard on this completely, I get the impression this guy has no idea what is really wrong with it, you could easily be getting a really expensive can of worms

Well I bought the thing despite all the reply’s saying not to lol. I’ve been wanting a superjet for a long time and this one that wasn’t way out of my budget.

After getting it home the body looks a bit rougher than I had thought and it is missing some things, seller is going to look through his stuff cause he said he should have them tho.

Going to be a fun project I hope, just hopefully I can get it going quick enough to enjoy for a couple months
