Superjet question

Hey everyone,

Not exactly sure where to post this so I figured this was the most relevant place.

Found a sj for sale In my area. Low and behold it's for sale on the site.

Would it be OK to ask/ post the link to it and see if it's a good starter ski and ask about possible issues I could have going forward?

Sorry if it's the wrong place. Just looking for some extra insight post my own research

Is this your first ski?
What are your plans with it?
What kind of riding will you be doing?

As a "starter" ski you probably don't want total loss and a scupper. Wiring looks pretty messy but other than that looks to be a nice ski.

Would definitely want to take the engine out and reroute all the wiring and put a stock ignition in it but that would teach you how to work on it and has all the parts you would want. Would prob want a pole spring also

Yea would be my first stand-up.
Plans to freeride on my lake. Put some good hours in. Weekend warriors type stuff in the summers.

The total loss as I understand just requires a battery charge after 4-5 hours. But wouldn't the gain be worth that.

When would the scupper cause issues. Between 1-5mph?

In my opinion a total loss on a rec ski is just a pain and not worth the little performance increase. For a rec ski you just want to ride, ride and ride and not mess with charging a battery all the time. Stock ignition with a lightened flywheel is so much easier.

The scuppers are well known to sink skis and you can’t just leave the ski in the water. For 99% of rec riders the stock vacuum bilge and an electric bilge pump are all you will ever need.
Honestly it appears to be a good ski but at $7K I wouldn’t want to have to change the ignition or do the little things.

Keep in mind if you bought a clean square nose for $3500 and decide what you really want out of a ski once you get a season on it you could make one mean ski for another $3k.

Prices on skis are crazy at the moment.

Would a trickle charger setup on the jetski lift be an option, or having a 2nd battery that's always "hot" work? I guess doing a battery swap every ride would get very old very fast.

How long can a ski sit without power before the scupper causes issues. 10min? 30min? I can see where that could be inconvenient

Thank you so much for the input

Scupper can start letting water in the minute you stop. You can’t safely let the ski sit in the water.

Yes on the battery charger but it gets old really fast. Plus charging and discharging a battery constantly will really shorten its life.

You could sell the total loss for more than you could buy a clean stock ignition for..I can tell you that would be a headache just from looking at it..obviously no attention to detail went into the install (no offense to seller) when you are learning you want to push the button and ride. Not chase electrical problems. you can just plug the scupper if it leaks too much

That's a hell of a starter ski. I'd listen to these guys and just plug the scupper and make some money back selling the TL for charging electronics.

there arent many RN's that come up for sale in NY. And the ones that due are often way expensive or molested , often a combination of both. I'm down in the finger lakes area, my RN came from southern MD, and my SXR 800 came from Mass. Expand your search to a 10-12 hr round trip. Buy something that is as close to stock as possible especially for a new rider. Wrenching to ride sucks. Stock stuff that has been gently used is a better go for somebody new.

Thanks all for the input ended up not getting this one but I ended up getting the other ski he had, watercraft factory 06 hull with a jm 781. Needless to say I'm excited I've wanted wanted stand up since I was 10 (17years, itchy trigger finger). Can't wait to drop it in the water in a few weeks.
