Superjet relay problem

I had gotten the common clicking noise from my relay so I replaced it with a am relay, and it still clicks, but then the relay gets stuck engaged and starts heating up and smoking, I have tried 2 brand new relays and it happens on both, I tested both relays before installation and they worked fine, and after one click they are both fried, anyone have any idea what’s going on?

One possibility is that your starter motor is pulling way too much current.....either binding on its bearings or your motor is too tight.....rusted cylinders, etc.....that causes the relay to overheat.......remove starter and test it.....also rotate motor with plugs out....check for smoothness.

Yeah I normally only buy oem but there was a 3 week back order from my Yamaha dealer figured I’d try a different one, the starter motor is brand new probably has about 5 rides on it, but I will pull it an bench test it and yet ya know, thanks for the reply’s

Pulled the starter motor and you are correct, will not spin when I bench tested, anyone know why? It’s a brand new starter motor, when I was bench testing it actually started melting the battery terminal

Pull it apart and clean/fix the brushes inside of it. Pretty sure JM sells rebuild kits for them, shouldn't be too difficult.

I took it apart and cleaned everything, still no dice, then swapped my positive wire with a new one, seems to run as it should, it must have some kinda arc internally, thank you for all the advice
