nostril lol. i bought it used a month ago (july 2nd to be exact) will a bunch of stuff on it already, otherwise i wouldn't have done it, this hasnt happened to anyone else?

if my new nose piece turns out not bad i will post pictures and progress and see what everyone thinks, lots of work so far! if i dont like it very much i may try another one! (I'm enjoying this little project can you tell?)

How has the nose piece come along?
I actually have come along ways! I took a major break when building my 550 motor. When it got all together it didn't work so I gave up on it and haven't really worked as hard on my nosepiece either. I have taken a fair amount of pictures so far and plan to take more as I progress!

I started with one chunk of insulation foam that we had left over from renovations and cut it to shape

I rounded the edges a bit too and tried to make a somewhat flush fit

I used expansion foam to glue on my next layers and fill any voids, nothing else really works for glueing it without eating away at the foam.

got some more foam on it and it looked better

this is the most recent picture I have taken this is more foam with it trimmed to the rough shape I wanted, since then I have put a layer of glass on that and the resin ate some of the foam giving me a weird shape so I filled the weird divots with bondo body fill, I have to sand it to shape now then I will get a picture soon hopefully!

The foam you are using is probably eps. Styrene disolves it, which is found poly resin and bondo which is poly based. You can coat your foam before using it, or you can use epoxy resin. Personally, i use epoxy resin. I mix my resin approx 1:1.5 with drywall mud, as it is cheao and sands easy, and wont leave pin holes like microspheres do. It also looks like you are using a foam like great stuff, which is spoungy and sands very poorly. Boat foam works better. I have been avoiding expensive products with long setup times like boat foam. I myself have been using drywall mud recently for everything, including gluing the foam together. It doesnt make a super strong bond so it wont work if you are abusive, but if you let the drywall get a little thick, it is very strong. They make a product called gripper in the caulk isle, which is specifically made for glueing this fiam together.

My recent process has been this...

Pink foam, glued together with drywall mud. Pink foam makes a solid skeleton.
Drywall mud, 5 min set, roughed out shape about 1/16-1/8 smaller than the real part.
Epoxy putty, or you could use bondo, over the drywall to get the final detailed shape.

It looks like your nose piece is taller than your hood...

Yes my nose peice is taller than my hood but it is first draft too, I'm using leftover scraps from bathroom renos. Sounds like you've got yours coming along though. Mine mainly sticks up because of the hooks for the hood

Another option on glueing the foam is a foam safe super glue from a rc Hobbie store. Alot of "park flier" planes are made of foam. It dries very fast also
