I thought that I read in the past that a certain Yamaha sitdown steering cable is beefier than the SJ cable and can be substituted directly.
Anyone remember what that was?

Is it any less expensive? Curious because we all know how proud Yamaha is of their parts. The Kawi throttle cable works like a champ at about 1/3 the price. (and is much more heavy duty)
Will yamaha to yamaha couch save any $?

Good thread! i also need a new sterring cable for my build. if i remenber correct, i´ve read about gp1200 steering cable as a replacement for the RN steering cable. never heard about the gp1200r cable.

@tom21: have you used the gp1200r cable in person?

i think gp800 and gp1200 is the same hull, so i assume they use the same steering cable?

gp1200 steering cable part number is GP8-U1481-00-00;
gp800 steering cable part number is GP7-U1481-00-00;
gp1200r (2000-2002) steering cable part number is F0X-U1481-00-00 or F0X-U1481-10-00

So maybe they are all the same? Someone must find out!

I can't say this for sure but I know for a fact from trying to swap cables on a 701 Waveventure that the 1100-1200 cables are bigger, I ended up having to swap the plastic cable holder and the rubber piece as well, the cable would not physically fit through the waveventure 701 parts, I have a GP 1200 here being parted and a Superjet cable already out, I can check those and see whats up

I really like the threaded ends on that cable. Whenever I've broken a cable, it was at the threaded ends (due to my own mishandling of steering adjustment, to be fair).
Stock cable threads are M5. These cable ends are quite a bit bigger, but I don't know the size.

They aren't metric if I remember correctly on the skat trak one I had in the Trinity. Great product and when I get extra money I'll be buying one to put in the Matrix. Matt, what are you going to do with the adapter for the thrust trim?
