Superjet won't start after being shut off

Having trouble starting my 2004 superjet after I ride it. I can start it for a few seconds no problem then shut it off. Then it will start again. But once I ride it for a little then come back to shore then try to start it right up after I shut it off it will just crank but won't fire. Once I let it sit it fires up again. I can ride for a s long as I want but once I shut it off it won't start right up ag

Same ski had same problem, we changed coil, cut heat sensor, finally opened electrical box, found some water, changed rev limiter (cdi i think) ski runs perfect but weeks of trial and error.

Sounds like a bad fuel tank check valve. It should let pressure into the tank but not out of it. If the ski is in the sun or you have been riding it for a while, the gas cap should hiss when you crack it open.

i have had the same problem but mine was random. it was the start stop switch it would crank but no start but when you remove the lanyard and put it back in. it would start. some times it would take a few tries. ps you can clean the contacts inside the switches and use a little dielectric grease afterwards.

The cdi was no good. Figured I'd let everyone know. Thanks guys!

I had the same problem and mine was the coil. 2004 superjet. Sorry I didnt see your post sooner. I was going to suggest a spark plug tester. Easy way to see if you are losing the spark.

My favorite way however is to convince one of my buddies to hold the boot and let me know how it goes.

old thread, but if someone's having similar issues there's a good chance the start/stop switch is the problem. Here's a quick video how on how to rule that out. It's a common failure on all pre-2021 SJs.
