Need the people who "have the knowledge" to have a gold star or something next to there name. I have been here a while and still took me some time to catch on that people like Jr and Blue etc know what they are talking about through experience/profession. And theBuzzard needs a Silver star for calling out the people who are full of shonet. :)

As a new guy here who really doesn't know much about skis, I can tell you it takes years to figure out who knows what they are talking about and who is spewing BS.

How about making it easier on guys like me by just putting "Professional Engine Builder - 25 years" or something like that under their avatar.

I have the word "Instructor" under my name on another type of forum. I didn't put it there and couldn't put it there if I wanted to. Only the forum owner/moderator could do it.

Anyway, I agree with Quinc, I have read alot of Supertune Chuck's posts and learned allot from them. Maybe you could get him and others back if the forum gave them the respected designation they deserve?

You guys can use the "Joined" date to get a little bit of an idea on who has been around and might have some knowledge. I know it's not perfect but if you see the same names posting advice and below their name it shows Joined "insert month, nineteen fifty ten", then you should be safe to assume they've been around the skis for at least that long and know what they're talking about or at least have experienced.

These are all great suggestions and I agree with the sentiment that it’s hard for newbs to know who is responding from a screen name but all this feels about ten years too late. The damage is done, would be hard to come back from and try to entice the pros to come back and post without some sort of compensation, takes a lot of time to respond to technical questions and than answer 50 follow up questions, I would venture to say these engine builders don’t have time for that and there time can be better spent in the shop pushing out billable work, most will answer the phone and are more than happy to chat, also shows your serious and value the information being given when you make the effort to call, take your own time from your own day just as they are from there’s. Let’s face it they provide a service that we are asking them to provide for free and when it’s not valued by the masses than why bother, more headaches than it’s worth. I know that’s how I would feel if that’s what happened to me in my field.

I will just say, Chuck is a good guy, and I sure don't blame him for not wanting to be on the internet...….

Too many You Tube / Facebook certified experts out there.....

The amount of bad advice that gets regurgitated is a real issue. Used to NEVER be like this in the early days of the forums. I think it is just this generation of people. No one has resect for anyone else, no matter what you are talking about.

Im with Buzzard on giving the know it all a quick vacation for the lack of respect issues! I have found myself in arguments with Mr Be Fair, BK , all to often when I get bent up over these clowns. I myself dont post as often as I like, and find I have more productive things to do. Wasting time with an unappreciative member, on a motor subject, is just stupid. As members who care, and really want the knowledge back? Know, you can do your part to curb the lack of respect! Ill back you up! Even if BK yells at me!

I think you misunderstood my post. I mean i'm the one who gets banned instead of the idiot that shouldn't even be opening his mouth. lol.
thats why i say shut up and listen. let the guys that know the real answer do the talking and you might learn something.

There's still some good knowledgeable guys on this forum, this thread is a good example. The place you should NEVER take advice from is the facebook jet ski groups (unless it's somebody reputable). There's so many idiots on FB that have NO IDEA what they are talking about. I stopped commenting on the posts a while ago, mainly because when you give the proper answer it gets drowned out in a sea of comments and flames. At least on the X you can see join date, post history, etc. AND we have moderators to keep it in check. I'm glad to see some good old fashioned build threads involving OEM hulls and fiberglass work popping back up lately. It gets old seeing people posting assembly threads that total $30k. Especially when you see the same guys part the ski out 2 months later.

I would rather see a silver/gold/platinum wrench ... then a gold star .....

That's a good point too smoofers, it's nice to see the OEM hull builds making some returns to the forums. I don't foresee being able to get an aftermarket hull in the near future as I am trying to save up for a down payment on a house purchase, so to see new ideas or old ones revisited on OEM hulls brings that "2 weeks away pre-skison butterflies in gut with excitement" feeling back. Looking at what is for most of us the unobtainable just makes the season startup look so much further away. I've had aftermarket carb tuning on my mind every day for the last month now for my SuperJet, and keeping in mind what both JetManiac and Jr. have told me for setup and tuning points. When these guys talk...I listen. This isn't fanboy talk for select individuals either, this is respect for all the experienced gurus in our little niche market. The Buzzard, Waxhead, Jr., Blue, JetManiac, Supertune Chuck, GroupK...even though he's not here he still was kind enough to post many, very lengthy and detailed tech writeups on his website, and answers questions, he has never missed a question I have emailed...a little bit longer wait time with a short and to the point answer but still answered me :) It all gets taken to heart. I've never had any misleading, disrespectful or sarcastic replies from these guys. They have always been outstanding just to offer their input and I reciprocate that by responding in kind appreciatively, without sarcasm and following their advice. The keyboard cowboys I will avoid at all cost, even if it's within my own threads. Nobody needs to be insulted, nobody needs snappy jackhole sarcastic responses, and nobody needs to offer their experience with a reply. Getting roped into that is a good reason why lots of people have either totally stopped or substantially reduced their presence on the forums.

If i give out some advice these days and someone argues who in my opinion has no idea. I normally just say, That's a great idea and you should try it. Im way to busy with my business to deal with idiots. Most of the professional builders on here while sometimes have differing views are very respectful in the way they talk to each other. The way i determine if I am speaking with an idiot is when they use very large words to try and explain what could have been explained easily. This is a common ploy to scare you off asking a question that will break the frail amount of knowledge they have. If you answer a question in a way that explains it then you have to know what you are saying because someone will then ask more questions based on their new knowledge and you have to be able to back yourself up.

One of the quick answers you gave to me regarding cylinder intake tracts was "I posted a build thread a while back on everything you're asking". I forget what you said the title of it is, I did bookmark it too, but that quick answer confirmed what I suspected, and because you did it first I saw good reason to follow suit and do it too lol. That thread gave me MANY answers to things I didn't ask but often wondered about. Just as you say, a simple question asked will bring back a simple answer. To quote one Ozzy Man, "you're a fair dinkum bloke mate"
