Surf ski-single or dual carb............

Wondering who has personal experience with this one................

I have a 701 (62T), b-pipe, advent, 35 cc domes, and the dual 48 full spec carbs with billet manifold and 3 stage carbon reeds. The ski rips pretty good, but is not as crisp right off idle as I would like. Mid range is awesome and hard to hold on to. I rode a single 48 Riva powerbomb ski with the same pipe and head set up and it seemed to hit harder off idle, but not in the mid to high (but needed some tuning to be fair).

I have been told my 48s are too much for a stock motor-I have also had several people say its the hardest hitting SJ they have ridden.............I understand airflow and carbs and it stands to reason that the higher airspeed of a single would help bottom and mid on this setup, but I would need at least a manifold and possibly some good reeds/cages (v-force?) I am a little reluctant to change it, but would like to get more hit off the bottom. This is a surf/freestyle ski only and top end is not an issue............

Any chance the Riva works better than the Full Spec, or is it a single vs dual issue?

Has anyone done any testing or swapping under these conditions and come to a reasonable conclusion?

I forgot!
i run dual 48 powerbombs on my 718cc with 35cc domes. i think it works very well, and now i have a TL with it. A buddy i know runs a fully prepped TLR 701 with dual 49 full specs, tnt chamber and mag pump. that combo there hits very very hard, for a 701

What pop-off pressure are you running in the full specs? Around 12psi?

25-35psi would not work on any of my motors (way too high). 11.5psi for 61x , 17psi for stock stroke Lamey. like 1/4 turn out on the L/S screw. That cleaned up the low end response and eliminated lots of BLACK GOO dripping out of the exhaust (from over compensating L/S screw adjustment).

Ed had recommend 24psi popoff for dual 48's for me.
Don't know if it works, as I haven't ran the dual configuration yet.
But his jetting spec for a single 48 was dead on for 2 motors for me.

You always hear about the scary OEM reed failure, but I have never met or talked to anyone that's had that happen.

Why chance it?

Because there's little actual chance of it happening.
I've never had an OEM reed break, but I have had a topend destroyed by a screw that came out of a VF2 reed cage, and another one by a throttle plate screw.

That said, CarbonTecs are relatively inexpensive.
But OEMs are cheaper.

I have seen an OEM metal reed bang up a topend too...no fun. I will go with OEM fiber reeds from now on.
