seriously, you need to take a road trip up and let me rip on that for a session.... I really want to see what it feels like...

when ya comming???
:bananalama:

most definately man! everyone gets a ride  i'll be there in Jan definately, maybe sooner if i can get someone to split some gas money. as of today, i've only ridden it for like 20min. because it was way f^cking loud without the box in it. it felt pretty cool, i can tell ya' that much. very different carving without the gunwales.

That is really badass. I was/am thinking of doing that to my spare x2 hull.

Only thing, especially with standups, those side rails probably provide ALOT of strength when the rear takes abuse......I theorize that you would need to do some serious reinforcing for that to survive.

Blue,

Masterbrian on PWCT tried it years ago with an X2. The pump shoe/cavity goes up into the seat some. When he tried cutting off the seat, he ran into this. I chopped up an X2 hull a few months back. I should have paid more attention.

it's pretty well reinforced inside and the tray now has four layers of biax on it. should be good to go. i don't go huge, more of a shredder than anything. i do get a little crazy sometimes but you won't see going for those 30ft. airs like some of you crazy bastards :439:. mostly re-entries and surfin'. i do still feel pretty confident that it would hold up to some pretty good abuse. time shall tell...
rode it tonight for the first actual ride and it was a blast!!! definately happy with it.

i remeber a write up in like '95 in Splash mag. about some dude that bought one of victor sheldon's kawi's and did this. seemed like more of a flatwater boat though. no straps or anything. it was pretty bad ass looking.

You did a very nice clean job, good work. Turns out, that kind of hull is really taxing on your arm strength. There are no gunnels to help you lever on to climb back in the tray. Be careful loaning it out in the surf, you’d be amazed how fast you can get into trouble. Most people don’t realize how many times they scramble back in and out of the tray during bobbled reentries and misangled landings. Without the gunnels you’ll really have to hurk yourself on each time and it will add up fast. Always fun to try some thing new!

I had a blast rippin that boat! Its alot more stable with your feet being further apart.

I think Ross rode Brad's boat as well? Hopefully he can chime in with his thoughts.

I havebeen noticing that a lot lately when jumping from my X2 to other people's SJ's. I am like man I need to get a stand up again, I just can't ride these with a narrow tray!

Hopefully someday I can have a review on my flatdeck, fixed steer SJ. Maybe if I get my girl to put up some pics you guys will give me more ambition to get it done! It is so close!
