Surfriding Surfriding ankle support ideas?

After reading the wake board boot thread I was wondering what, if anything everyone does for ankle support. When your Surf riding, it doesn't take much of a wave to get some ridiculous height. I'm currently using the Chuck Taylor Converse high tops because of the added lace support but I'm wondering if there is an even better option. So does anybody have any good setups/gear that helps for ankle support?

Hey John,
I have always carried a knee brace with me snowboard and dirtbiking and my dad always has his need brace and ankle brace with him. but anywho the ones that we use are just a slip on 100% neopreme support. they work great but are still light a flexable and fit under most gear or shoes. My dad wears ankle one under his everyday size shoe with no issues and the salt water wont hurt them. I think sports authority or dicks carries them int there basketball or football section.

By the way, waves are terrible but I think me a Curtis might ride tomorrow if you get bored. I just want to get back out.

I have actually worn an ankle brace a few times. I should wear it everytime, of course.

From my b ball days I could get by with the neoprene jobs, people with the worse ankles wore the laced kind as you can get them tight. Try those..

Some good suggestions here, thx to all who responded. The Brace shop and Active ankles look like they would offer the most support, although they seem a little bulky but I guess thats a necessary evil. Has any one who's ridden with any off these have any feedback?

i get free active ankles from time to time, but i don't use them. i think i have an unused one on my shelf at home. i'll send it to you for $5 plus shipping if you want it. (im at college until next monday or tuesday though)

good question. I havnt ridden stand ups in the surf much yet. But last year I bailed on a waveraider(I donno thought i was on a dirt bike i guess and thought the ski was gonna land on me) and i busted my shin up bad. ride plate scraped my shin messing up nerves and blood vessels. I still have no feeling. I also have one bad knee from falling off a truck I was working on dislocating my knee. Now it happens anytime i put weight on it abnormally. Just happened the other day while gettin on my bike. Worst pain ever. Im interested in a good knee brace for sure.

I wear 2 full lace up ankle supports after injuring one last year. They are bulky, but work. I'd love to find something else, like the wakeboard moonboots. I wear some Airwalks that look like Chuck Taylors as well.
