as the title states. What makes them different from each other. I know about the whole small pin/big pin thing but what else. My cousin is buying his first ski today (92 750sx) & we have a junkie with a 98sxi.

Between sx and sxi, the age, graphics, and the motor are really the only differences. The sxi pro has a slight difference in the hull and therefore has a shorter driveshaft not enough difference to justify paying extra or holding out for. I say go with the SX. It's cheaper, easier to find parts, and has a better motor in my opinion. Built right, you'll be impressed with the amount of power you can get for under $2k-$3k total including the price of the ski.

SX has single carb

SXi has dual carbs and oil injection

SXiPro has dual carbs and uses premix

Pretty sure (got rid of all my Kawi stuff)

the 98 + up sxi pro's have the motor moved forward 2"s.
it has rear - side sponson's stock from the factory.
it has a u shaped bottom hull instead of the older flat style.
it use's a sxr800 style ride plate.
it has an alum waterbox.

my wisdom would be to put averything in the 98 + up sxi pro hull and get wet.
you will get more banana's back when + if you want to sell it using the 98 + up hull !!!

get wet

Sorry, but the statement above isn't very accurate... the differences between the SX/SXI hull and the SXI Pro hull are VERY significant. The bottom hull curve is significantly altered, not just the concave leading into the pump inlet. The SX was a very fast hull but ridiculusly difficult to handle at top speed if the engine is modified at all. The Sxi Pro hull is a bit slower, but WAY better handling, especially if you add hull extensions and front side sponsons or tubbies. I have owned both, and after riding my SXI Pro, I will never bother owning an SX again.

who cares about numbers! ricky carmicheal can win on a honda kawasaki and suzuki. So the results from racing and freestyle circuit pre sxr days have no affect on my opinion.

I think my SX feels lighter and smaller then any Sj i have rode and it handles better.

thanks for the info guys. We're checking everything out now. It was without a starter & the fuel lines are pretty hard. The ebox is immaculate inside & the motor is as well! The flywheel & stator had some surface rust but it sprayed off with some electric cleaning spray. The bendix is locked, but think it'll come loose after soaking in some pb blaster. While spraying it down much surface rust came off of it as well.

It's my 18 year old cousin's first ski. We just need to get it registered, get block offs for the oil & crankcase & a new throttle cable. It'll be ready to rip in a week or 2 depending on how long it takes for parts to arrive. I'm donating an extra starter & fuel line to the project. :burnout:

Why blockoff the crankcase drain? Fill that motor with water once and you'll wish you had the drain. I never had a drain fail but I was glad I had it many times. I wish my Sxr had one too.

one of the first things I did on my motor was block it off. That drain fails & you will ruin a motor quick. If you block it off, then just do this http://www.wavejunkies.com/surf-survival/56-repair-dewatering-sunk-engine and keep on riding. I know, I've filled mine with water more than once.

I hear ya, but for me I leave them on. I've been riding Kawi's since '88, raced'em for 10 years and never had a drain fail. They do make restarting a sunk engine much easier. I've sunk more than one ski, unfortunately.
