Sxr 2003 - 2008?

Is there any difference between the 2003 and newer SXR's? If so what are they? (besides color combinations)

Flush kit and Electronics. The 2003 has inferior electronics to the 04-2010. Besides that, they are all exactly the same.

It is reliable as any. Just not as effecient. the newer electronics give some more performance. For stock class you will see more people with 2003's running advent cdi's whereas the 2004+ you can just about get by without it.

Is this a big enough deal, You would hold off on buying a 2003 and look for a 2004 or newer?

If I was looking for a SXR to race Stock, I would really look for 2004+. If I was looking for a ski to build up, then best deal.

the 2003 sxr used the same ignition as the sxi750 it is a DC-CDI system. in 2004 and up they upgraded the ignitions to Digetal CDI systems that use to temp sensors to advance and retard the timming both systems are reliable but. I would much rether own a 2010 mercades than an 1989.

You would have to change out all the electronics, not just the CDI.

I've owned a 2003,2004,2005,and 2008 SXR.

03 head had probs
04 whole thing blew up top and bottom
05 perfect
08 perfect so far.

i don't do any engine mods except wet pipe to maintain reliability. ride in the surf 2-3 times a week and my skis usually get about 300-400 hours on em . Don't worry too much about year, just ck compression and should be good for 300 hours no matter what the year.
