SXR SXR based ROK Dual cooling, stock motor/exhaust

Currently finishing up a WDK Rok with a stock SXR motor, exhaust and pump. It has two 3/8in lines running from the pump (already drilled and tapped pump for a second 1/4npt x3/8 90deg).

I want to run the cooling in the image below (taken from an X-2 thread on PWC today). My question is, the SXR has one fitting on the manifold, not two (green lines "from pump" in the image). Will I get enough flow going to the cylinders/head with one line inlet or do I need the two to run it this way. Don't want to overheat anything.

I'd rather not have to drill and tap the manifold for two fittings if I don't have to.

Ummm.... Are running a stock exhaust? Your post said so but the picture says otherwise. It's not necessary to run a dual cooling on a stock sxr motor and exhaust. I have a wetpipe on my sxr and running single cooling. It stays cool enough, never overheated.

Yes stock exhaust.

The reason I'm running dual cooling on this is because the ROK hull has 2x 3/8in cooling lines instead of the single 1/2in that SX-R's have. The cross sectional area of a single 1/2in line is .196 in^2, two 3/8 lines have a combined area of .220 in^2, so close to the same cooling flow. I don't think one 3/8 line would be enough.

The only things I want to do different from that picture is run one line into the manifold (eliminate the Y fitting coming in) so from what I'm gathering you are saying is that I'll have enough cooling.

That and the T on the pipe that goes to the stinger I guess wouldn't exist either (that's for a wetpipe? all the MSpaint drawings I've found show it). So top of pipe to pisser?

I have a SXR with a wet pipe. Kommander Industries set me up with dual cooling. I have a 1/2 inch line running from my pump to my exhaust manifold ( cooling for motor) and 3/8 line running to my exhaust. Setting it up this way allowed me to run my exhaust hotter without having to worry about the motor overheating.

Cool, so you are you are using the stock single inlet on the exh manifold?

I also like the idea of this setup because it let's you watch the pissers and you know if a problem is in the engine or pipe.

I am using a Factory Wet Pipe but I believe you could run it on the stock pipe? I run 3 pissers: Two off the head and one off the pipe.

Sorry, off the topic. How did you get a Kawi based Rok? I wanna know how you like the combo, I got a Yami based Rok and stock SXR. Love the Rok hull and the power of a Sxr. A perfect combo. If you have any vids riding send me link, please.

The ski is currently crated up and on its way to New Zealand, I'm moving there for work. I'll let you know how I like it in 6-8 weeks. I ordered a Kawi ROK from Jeff (took a few weeks longer then I expected and had a few complications). Since it was late I had to rush to finish it and get it shipped.

You need an aftermarket waterbox, I used an ATP and a silicone 90deg elbow, and a 750 driveshaft to make it work. I'm running a 550 tank, but Jeff said that an FX1 tank will work and I plan to try it since I want a larger tank since this will be a surf ski. I kind of doubt the FX1 tank will fit judging by how close the 550 tank is.

Few little concerns, there is a lip on the front of ride plate that will need to be shaved down, it currently sits under the back of the intake grate (or is it supposed to be like this).

Also the hull has PVC tubes for steering and trim, they are NPT but I was able to hold the steering cable with an NPT to 1/2in compression fitting drilled out to fit the steering cable (the cap on the compression fitting it perfectly sized for those C-clips).

My ride plate buds up against the pump shoe perfectly....????? And I got lucky on the tank, came with the ski , perfect size ...don't know who makes them.

Same here on the waterbox, small carbon water box. Had to put a piece of turf against the ski wall where the pipe was touching a bit.
Did you have to shim the pump or the motor at all?
I would love to ride a Rok with Sxr power, you just lost about 100lb of weight from your sxr, you gonna love it.

SirMrManGuy this is even more off topic but what kind of work do you do? It is my dream to move to New Zealand and I cant figure out a way to get there. I have researched it a little and it sounds like it is quite difficult to become a resident there?

he works on nuclear powerplants! i think he does their maintenance and check-ups. guys smart as hell, sorry to see him move away. but you know none of us would stay in the u.s if that opportunity came

Yeah. As Big C said, I work in power plants, not nuclear anymore thank god (not that I have anything against them, just all the red tape sucks). I was doing plant inspections, testing and performance work most recently. I'm a mechanical engineer and NZ tends to loose a lot of their skilled workforce to Australia since they can't pay as well. If you have experience in things like industrial construction, engineering or biotechnology the government makes it easier to get in.

I started by looking on www.seek.co.nz, sent a resume to a few recruiters and they took care of the rest. I didn't have a work visa when I did this, just told them that if they found a company willing to sponsor me I'd go for it. I got a job with one of the energy companies here working at a geothermal power plant (I start monday!) and they sponsored me and assigned a visa professional to help me. I needed to get a full medical with xray, fbi background check, and official/signed copies of my employment and education history. Took about a month and a half to get the paperwork together but after that the NZ embassy in DC sent my application back in about a week.

Also just to make you guys jealous, this is literally my back yard: http://vimeo.com/40326885

If you are just trying to come over to NZ for a few months to a year there are some other options like working holiday visas (must be 18-30, limits you to 6 months at any one job and lasts a year, no healthcare, must have a return flight or some cash). Lots of kids out of college do this and travel around finding work on farms and stuff is really easy and pays decent (min wage is about $13 or something). Great way to see the country.

Look at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/

kx454: thanks I'll try and find a valve to throw in

Cory: I'll probably come home for a few weeks next summer, we'll have to hang out then.

Wow what a story, talking about going out of your comfort zone. I got Eropean background, so I know what it's like to live across the globe from your family. Good luck and enjoy.
