Sxr cracked cylinder

Noticed this hairline crack in rear cylinder. Anyone ever have this happen? What direction should I go in here?? New sleeve or bore out?? Dont say SJ haIMG_20140731_105800_845.jpg IMG_20140731_105710_503.jpg IMG_20140731_105718_910.jpg IMG_20140731_105732_233.jpg

I've read that kawasaki casts the cylinder around the sleeve and can't be pressed out like typical cylinders. It has to be bored so you have to do some shopping around to find how much it will cost. They do sell a sleeve that is thicker and you can put a larger piston inside. A added expense is you would need a big bore head from ADA. Just another option you may want to consider

I would order a new cylinder unless you know someone who can drop the sleeves. The costs of re-sleeving are almost the same as a brand new cylinder....unless you want to go big bore.

When mine did that, i just got a new sleeve put in the one side, and the other side was wore, so i got the new sleeve cut over and the other side oem side cut over aswell. no issues for the last 3 yrs.

What size pistons are you running now? I was wondering if anyone could notice a difference with slightly larger pistons.

I think it's hard to say how much displacement increase = increase in power. If you went to a big bore 820 it would be a 5% increase in displacement. If you were going to the Dasa 1050, that would be a 30% increase over stock, yea you'd definately notice that! I think most of your gains will come from the porting work that is often done the same time as the big bore. You really need to play the number game and explore your options so you can make a good decision with whatever direction you need to go. Babbitts can get you a new OEM cylinder for $528.37. Also you will require the ADA Big Bore head to go with the larger bore that's more $$$ you need to consider.

On my engine I opted to just home port it and leave the bore size alone. I just went .5 over and left it at that. I have no regrets, and I managed to keep a little more money in my pocket. I figure if I decide to big bore; I might as well go big (DASA) or not go at all.

try groupK, he sleeves these and does an 85mm big bore. also FYI as I understand the ports have to be ground to cleanup the alignment. no big deal unless you are racing it would not be stock or limited legal.
