Tachometer

I recently picked up a global digital tach (formerly SenDec). At idle I'm reading 2800 or so rpms, obviously that's not correct and it's doubling the rpms.

On their faq it states...

"Why does my tachometer read double the RPM’s?

Some ignition systems fire twice per RPM causing the meter to pick up this extra RPM of the engine. This is the exception and not the rule. If your engine does fire more than once per RPM our standard tachometer will not read accurately. Check your owners manual or with your dealer to determine the firing pattern of your engine."

I'm assuming this is what's going on with my 62t electrics. Can any one confirm?

Are their any moderately priced tach out there that will read correctly?

You would be correct. The Yamaha's use what is termed a "wasted" spark system that fires both plugs at the same time so you get 2 sparks per revolution.

Mine is a hardline and has adjustments/settings for that. About $40 on Amazon with hour meter to.

Have you had any problems with that tack/hour meter being completely exposed ? I would like to put one on my ski when the fresh motor goes in and i think it would be nice to glance down and look at it.

Sorry just saw this post. I've had no issues in water and it's completely sealed for such things.
