TBM charging flywheel is it really worth it?

So I'm running my 970 on an enhancer and stock flywheel.. I also have a power factor pipe. Before I throw big $$ down on a flywheel I want to know if this is really going to make a difference I will notice? I understand in a perfect situation total loss is what this package needs to get the most out of it. But on the dry pipe it needs to rev up to make power, if this gets it there quicker it should in theory make up for the lack of bottom end hit on the dry pipe.

Oh yes they work great but they break too. Ask jetmaniac he has a cracked one he can sell you cheap. I just run a lighted Jetmaniac wheel safe and reliable. Oh and cheap....

And for some reason very hard to get these days. I have been after him for one for some time now.

Tried, inbox is full. Jet maniac has none or I'd have made the purchase today. But to the real question, based on what I'm running- am I really going to notice it?

I have always maintained that the lightweight flywheel is a very subtle mod that you will not realize the full impact off until you go back to a stock flywheel. It's the final piece of the puzzle on a fully built engine rather than a first step on the road to a few simple bolt on mods. It frees up HP so the more HP you have, the more significant the gain.

If either of mine fail, I will buy new ones.

Aluminum charging flywheels always end up cracking at the hub , right of the key way. Just not enough material there because of stator clearance. That's why charging has steel hub. MSD TL wheel is plenty thick at hub.

Why not go TL? You've got the rest of the parts. Just switched a boat for a customer and he was very happy.

Properly lightened wheels are noticeable IMO, but I wouldn't build that kind of ski/motor and run stock electrics. It's a big piece of the puzzle.

I bought a TBM wheel, and I'm taking the epic out of Josh's ski and giving him my msd. Hopefully someone can give me some direction on a timing curve. How much timing down low, when to start pulling timing and how much to end up with at max rpm?

Augustaf set my epic up with 15 deg initial timing and then at 1500 rpm shooting up rapidly to 30 deg and remaining 30 until 4500 rpm then down rapidly to 15 deg. Suggest you pm Chris with ATP for your setup.

ok, TBM is on backorder, I have a jetnetics coming. Some pics I have seen show the jetnetics has a steel hub, is this true?

The original jetinetics had no steel hub and would eventually start cracking outward from the hub. All the newer ones do have the steel hub. I ran an original one for about 8 years before it started cracking out.

Tbm you can deff feel me and my mate had identical ski's only difference he had a tbm flywheel
It was a ripper bladdy thing was like a light switch compared to mine

So I ordered one its also on back order but it should be ready next week

Ive spoken to Chris and he said I have to re flash my epic to run the tbm correctly.
Its the only light weight charging that they have tried

Im not sure if the jetnetics will work might work with a tbm flash or you going to have to do some custom timing compensation

I built my JM770 with one I got from Fiore, no cracks. Has performed fine so far. Never had stock or lightened on it to compare though. :dunno:

I almost wonder if the cracking is due to carelessness during torquing or installation? I'm sure now that I've said that, mine will crack and detonate lol.
