Other The amazing 3m 5200

So I had some motor mounts that ripped in half....I long cure 5200'd them and bam they are strong as hell and holding up to big arse rolls and showing zero signs of a problem.

These were kinda new and from Wamilton. I was getting irritated destroying mounts so figured why not lets give it a try!

I just glued them together and then let some run down in the hole under the mount to give a kind of "soft rivet" and man they are doing great!

3 surf ride so far with some pretty big throw aways! Good as new....heck if I get 5 surf rides I'l be happy! I have 2 spare 5200'd mounts too so that would be 15 wave rides on what was about to be trash.

Are you destroying SJ mounts or couch mounts ? I was sick of new oem SJ mounts not lasting, then found out what others said that oem couch mounts hold up much longer. Its all I have run many years now. I have wondered for some time whether some type of glue could repair mounts for backup use and save the day.

My buddy machined the crap out of some couch mounts and I couldn't get them to fit....I guess they just won't fit on some AM hulls....

Can you send a picture of the mounts? I had a set of rhass mounts just give out. Curious to try this when I get new ones back.

awesome thanks. I can't see spending 160 for mounts if they just rip apart at the base. the rest of the design is holding up. small weakness that would be cool if I could fix with 5200

Back when I was into imports, a cheap effective mod to stiffen up the motor mounts was to fill the void in the factory rubber with this rubber in a caulk tune called window weld. Used for setting new windshields. Worked awesome. Wonder if this could somehow work the same way in the ski world??

A friend of mine had a seperating and ripped mid shaft housing on a b1. He 5200'd it and ran it like that for a season or 2 until he sold the ski.

The tops came off all my stock ones. Not fond of the idea of flat plate glued to rubber. I bought Rhaas mounts because he puts teeth into the metal. I don't invert but I've been happy.
