Speaking of salt water.....dont forget to ask matt about salt water and his fool proof total loss system:sneaky:

I dont think they call it total loss for nothing:biggrin:

there was nothing in his tool box that could help him this weekend...

Uh yeah...I should edit that thread title to "Freshwater MSD Foolproofing".
Damn saltwater I tell you.
I got it going for most of the day today, though. What a blast (me & Phill are currently at the Blowsion Beach Party).
I think I need a stock electrical system for saltwater use.

BTW, pulling bendixes isn't a big deal.
Take the tank out, and you can be done, and buttoned up within 30-45 minutes.

Oh yeah....even though my ski broke down, I still got a HELLUVA LOT more riding time than whiny ass Phill.

Oooh....I'm hurting...I'm tired....

It also gave me great satisfaction to destroy his ski at the end of the day today. The motor went forward, smashed the battery box, and when it came back, destroyed the short shaft coupler and coupler cover in most spectacular fashion.
Awesome!
And speaking of Beach...the guys at Blowsion (and Joe Kenney) know how to throw a hell of a party.

We also keep the beer in the tool box so we dont ever need to leave the beach.

And zip ties work as good as duct tape!!!!

Matt needed a ******** load of zip ties just to ride the few minutes that he did.

Awesome!

Kenny Keepers can help keep that from happening.

Not sure if someone already mentioned it, but dielectric grease is a pretty good thing to have especially for saltwater. If you need to washout the ski before you get home having a jug of saltaway with you helps too.

I could have used a multimeter this weekend. Makes finding a bad ground easy. Also helps sort out other electrical probs. It might not get you back on the water but atleast it will tell you when to give up.

As for the b-pipe coulplers. I have used the 4" ones from home depot for pvc. They go on ALOT easier. They last alot longer then you would think, you just have to have one screw open all the way. I put about 10 hours on one and it didn't blow b4 I swapped it out for a new silcon one.

you guys don't use carb cleaner and a wire brush to clean your plugs? I know people don't like the idea of starting fluid but we use it after the plugs are wet to help get it going again.

How can you be without JB Weld? I also have all assorted hose clamps, extra fuel filter, carb rebuild kit, zip ties, some type of wire-I found Stainless safety wire.

Tools- gotta have a full socket set and screwdrivers.

Locktite- Blue and red.

1. A 2 or 3 foot 3/8 extension.. I hate bending over a ski and can make a motor swap a eas thing.
2. A good cordless drill and 1/4 drive adpaters (speeds things up alot)..
3. I use carb cleaner to get things going again..
4. And a MUST for the ocean.. MSD terminals and plug boot !!
5. A spare decent prop W/ tool (I cant tell you how many people it has saved)
6. My coffee can of bolts/keyways/hose clamps/5200

A Fish Fillet Knife long enough to reach and cut Rope thru the Intake Grate. And Long Reach Needle Nose Pliers.

Compression Gauge to check for Piston damage.

Spare Spark Plugs. Spare Fuses. The Bilge Pump should also have an Inline Fuse installed. Seen Bilge Pumps start a Fire because they had no Fuse.

Digital Multi-Meter for Electrical troubleshooting from the Battery to ALL the Ignition and Stator Coils. Easier to do if you have a Deutsche type weatherproof connector on the Stator Wires. That way the Coils can be tested when they are WARM.

Primer Spray Bottle or Spray Can.

A Portable Battery Operated Bilge Pump for $15 at Harbor Freight

You ain’t kidding on the long reach Knife! Got stuck for over 3 hours with a nylon rope around the drive shaft… all I had was a craftsman screw driver and could barely reach the drive shaft, took me 3 hours to cut thru it 1 thread at a time while stuck on a rock bank :(

I need that battery operated bilge pump, thanks
