The BEST cold weather mod

I know many of you have heard of running a cooling line up the handlepole to warm the hands and one in the tray if you wanted. Well I rode some guys FX1 this weekend that one up'd that idea. He ran the pisser line up the pole, but then taped into his bars a nipple for the line to go on, since bars are hollow the water filled up the bars, then he drilled a few very small holes in the bars where the grips are and also in the grips so the water comes squirting out of the grips keeping the whole hand warm. Its kinda funny to blip the throttle with one had off the grip and watch the water shoot out a few feet but I thought it was a great idea that ive never seen before for us cold weather riders.

when i refoam i was thinking about putting a fitting in the firewall and then run a hose (or other solid tubing) to each foothold and put a fitting in the footholds so your feet will have hot water inside the footholds....

Tap into a line of surgical tubing running up your arm and fill your suit with warm water. Tap into your helmet as-needed. Just gotta maintain comfortable running temps and don't go wot :angryfire:

did this last season, works great.......

thought about a line into the wetsuit, but seeing as jellyfish DO get sucked up into the pump on occaision................................................

(and yes, the T has since been fixed....)

I've done this and my boy legdrag has it too .We ride in the winter here in Massachusetts and it gets pretty cold .

We run a line from the pissers to the handlebars and drill holes for each finger .If you want to get fancy you can put a valve in to adjust the flow too .

The whole hose spraying on your hands doesn't work .Been there done that  it has to pressurize your bars to work effectively .the guys saying the hose spraying on your hands worked great have never had their bars pressurized and dont know the difference .the wind and conditions make the spary go everywhere but your hands .

I call that the getto handwarmers :haha:

Honestly it takes less time to do this mod than any other I've done and less time than running hose to your hands to spray on them

Here's a couple pics and believe it or not I got this idea from Skidaddy who lives in Florida .LOL :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

once again,

hangtime...

my ghetto shiat works.

IDOKS's ghettos shiat works.

and we didnt have to weaken a set of $40 bars, OR fill our start/stop switch with pressurised water that was far enough ( temp wise) from ambient to break the seal..

I love this argument.

I will ad 17 more godammmmmed "floppy ghetto hoses" to my bars this year and ride well into winter.....

you keep learning basic plumbing skills and fittings on your bars... Oh yeah, that drilling and tapping expereince will come in handy later also...

my guess is you will learn how o sleeve and weld AL eventually as well.

If you do something like this, what happens when you fall off? Does the surgical tubing slingshot you back on the ski or do lay in the water freezing  until you stuff the tubing back up your sleeves and go again ?

Don't fall

I use a stiff plastic tube running up the pole with a coupler that I tap into the surgical tubing wrapping up my arm. They just come apart right there at the coupler.

I don't know about jellyfish but I've sucked up sand :wallbang:

I had 8 mm thick gloves and my hands still got frozen .:banghead:
I only use it for my hands because that's the only thing that gets cold .

Lake, to each his own if you want the getto version go for it .

The funny part is it takes less time to hook it up the right way

The holes I drilled are 1/8 inch and don't weaken the bars .

Oh I know, Hang.

just razzing on you for calling my stuff ghetto.

looking at this though, if thats a 1/8" hole, whats the diameter of your bars 3/8"

attachment.php

and I mean really, do you think having that hole there makes them STRONGER?

ask an engineer here to do some calculations on the strenghth of that tube, with and without the hole, and I think that you will find, despite whaty you think, that it is weaker now.

How much weaker?

I dont know, im not an engineer, but I KNOW it is in fact weaker WITH the hole.

funny thing is, ask skidaddy about his cooling problems and why he kept blowing motors.......

started right about the time he did this mod  not to mention that the bars would get so hot that he couldnt hold onto the grips!

mine work perfectly......the water just shoots all over my hands, legs and abdomen...

i think that this year thoughim going to re-work it..and just run a tube into my PFD, but not against my bare skin.........

but, im not going to worry abouot that until january ;)

Uh yeah...you gotz to be reaaaal careful doing that mod (or just not stupid!).

Running it throught the bars like Hangtime suggests (it's great, I agree) results in significantly less flow through that line than a straight pisser outlet.
So - if that's your only pisser, you're backing up coolant flow through the engine, making it run quite a bit hotter than normal.
I know from experience - that's how I blew my engine at the end of last season.
If you do this mod (through the bars), make sure you have at least one other unrestricted water bypass.
