I'm itching to ride and have a 8mm suit, The water temp is 42 and wondering if I could damage my ski by riding in these conditions. I have dual cooling but should I block 1 to keep the engine a little warmer? I heard of cold water siezure but not sure what causes it.

Thanks

IM going to try my new dvx and my freshly rebuild dvx this weekend. We have a ft of snow on the ground and forcast is -15celcius. 90% of our lakes are frozen over. as long as the throttle cables dont freeze wide open your golden

You will need to restrict the cooling water exits on the engine to ensure the block is not over-cooled.
For two engines I used to have, this meant restricting each of the two head outlets to 2mm diameter. The goal is to have the cooling water exiting the head at 100 degrees or above.
That's worked for me in water temperatures as low as 35 degrees.

I also know that 1/4" fuel line fits in 3/8" water line so that should help me some. keeping it a 100 sound key, better steal the wifes Thermometer
for cooking lol

What did you use for restrictors?

Jetworks quick-disconnect cooling restrictors. They use inserts of different sizes.

As far as telling temperature, no thermometer needed if you use hand-warmers (and you should). If it's too cold to keep your hands warm, it's not restricted enough. If it's too hot on your hands, it's too hot.

Zack from php told me not to worry about running restrictors on a limited 701 setup in 40-50 degree water with dual cooling.. He said there's not really a need to worry about cold seizures.

I have done 40-42 without restrictors multiple times without issue, you won't get me in anything under 55 nowadays.

Haha. I'm still riding and I'm a couple hours North of you. Mind you I ride in a dam reservoir that has a hot water return from the power plant so the water temps aren't too bad. It was -19 Celsius for a couple days though and the water was noticeably colder after that. I'm just wearing a 5mm wetsuit and I'm comfortably warm, so you should be good in an 8mm suit. I haven't ran restrictors at all yet, I just put my hand in the pisser stream every once in a while and it has been plenty warm so far.

Cold seizures is what happens to the guy that runs and revves his ski up for 3 minutes out of the water and gets it really hot then dumps it right into some cold ass water and takes off at wot. the hot cylinder suddenly shrinks up from the cold water onto a hot expanded piston and bam.

Last time I did ride my pissers wern't pissing too hot. I have a stock head milled and dual tapped for cooling but maybe my hands were to cold and i couldn't fell anything anyway.

Single or dual cooling and what motor?

Dual cooling with a 760 and 66E, neither were expensive motors or had crazy compression. If I had more of an investment into my drivetrain (like a stroker or billet setup) I would probably put more thought into it but on the low budget, ported cylinder, pipe, and head, I just cruise around for a bit longer than usual letting it warm up slowly then ride as usual.
Like others have said, you can quickly unhook your overboard line from your pisser, chop off a couple inches of fuel line and slide that into the cooling line to make a super cheap, and quick reducer.
