riding a jetski is great fun but when ice is involved in any way,its time to develop something else to do with your time...lol

cold seizure on small motors with cast pistons not making alot of power is rare, larger motors with huge forged pistons, you better take the time to restrict it right or your in for issues even if you try to warm it up slow.

would it be safe to run a stock SJ in 34 deg water with below freezing air temps without restriction?

You should be just fine, let it warm up before riding hard.

*edit, YOU will not be fine, you will freeze your balls off. Your ski on the other hand should be just fine.

Mine is a stock 09 superjet with msd and bpipe, single cooling and it DID seize under WOT (30sec burst), 20 minutes into a ride in about 40F water. Happened twice at WOT on two different days. Im gonna get a restrictor!!!!

Did you install the bigger jets like factory pipe suggests? Also dual cooling has many benefits.

You can tune your pipe cooling and motor cooking separate. That's what he meant by benefits. I just put a piece of fuel line inside my water line before the pissers. We ride when there is still ice on the lake.

So you put a bit of fuel line inside the pisser line coming from the motor? do you run with that in there all year round or just when it gets really cold? How cold is your water?

I run the it restricted in the spring and fall. Pull the restrictor in the summer. We ride as soon as there is enough open water to ride around, usually still ice on the lake. Water temps range from almost frozen to 80* in the summer.

I use plastic or nylon restrictors, they might be labeled bushings at your local hardware store. In michigan we get huge swings in temp, even from lake to lake. Its best to have some adhesive temp strips from racelogic.com or mcmastercarr on the cyl head just so you know.

I shoot for 160 degree according to some post i read somewheres
