And she's home. Driving through Chicago with a ski sticking out the back of your car can be a rush. You might at this point see that I do not have a garage - so I'm making due with what I do have, which is a pool table. I'm going to probably drape up some temporary plastic walls too to keep fumes and dust down to a minimum in my apt.

So I've run into my first snare. I'm trying to get the pump shoe lined up and was intending on using the Jet Dynamics grate I bought to line up everything, but the intake is WAY off. I'm starting to think it's not even for a Superjet. It doesn't fit at all in the pump shoe notch, and the bolt holes if lined up where Tem would have me drill them, would leave a halve inch between the pump shoe and the hull.

Should I ditch the JD grate for something else while I am doing the first install?

Thats just Jet dynamics quality these days, all there grates fit like poop! You'll have to re drill the holes for it and do a ton of grinding to get it to fit nice

Do the pump shoe inserts line up with intake grate holes when everything is placed where they should be installed?

Not from where the front intake grate inserts are supposed to be per Tem's marks. It's got to be the grate. Makes me want to pick up an OEM grate just to line it up right ya know?

Dang, that's a disappointment. I might puck up an OEM grate to line up and in the mean time hack this JD grate to fit right once everything's in the right spot.

You can see the holes Tem marked out, the grate is flipped over cause it still needs some clearencing, but you can see the total misalignment of the JD grate on the back end when the front holes are aligned.

Mine in my chan fit really bad too. I bent it in the vice in a few areas and had to elongate a hole and grind on it in various spots.

Dang for real?? Guess I didn't do my homework in that category. I can't remember who I got this JD grate off of, but I wonder if they ever even actually had it on a ski it's so off.

Man I hate to burst your bubble but lining your pump shoe up using an intake grate is the LAST way to ever do this.
You need to drill your drive shaft hole (hoping Tim's guide hole is close) and assemble your pump. Bolt an intermediate housing without the shaft onto the fire wall. Slide the pump w/ shaft and pump seal in from rear through the intermediate housing.
This is how you line your pump shoe and pump up properly. Your shaft needs to be perfectly center of you intermediate hole inside the hull then mark and shim your pump shoe location and your pump holes PRECISELY! Remove the pump, drill and glue. Your intake grate will be the LAST of your worries as it can be modified to fit later.
If you want this thing to run with minimal vibration and wear to your intermediate shaft and drive shaft and everything else you need this step to be done PERFECTLY. That means the drive shaft and pump and pump shoe all need to line up perfectly with the hole in the intermediate housing.

This is your most critical step bro, I hope you take the time and get it right or you will be trashing parts for as long as you own this boat and or starting over once you ride it the first time. Get the pump shoe and pump correct before moving on and take no short cuts.

Seeing a build like this almost makes me cringe...and gives me a lot more respect for hull builders. I have no where near the skill to complete a project like this. I wish I did, but sadly, I dont.
