Super Jet The "Just Buy a Superjet" Build

So after screwing around with 550's for a while I finally got sick of them and am building a real ski. After being told multiple times to "Just buy a Superjet" I finally broke down and bought one...kind of. I parted out my conversion ski and am starting to piece together a square nose. I just picked up a hull today and should be picking up a vxr pro Saturday. The hull has sat outside for a while and needs a good cleaning, but it should clean up nice. It's a '90 sn hull with footholds already installed and a pretty nice turf job. I am going to try to figure out a round nose pole set up. I want the pole to be around -4". I need a lot of the small parts like the steering cable, waterbox, battery tray, gas tank, etc. so let me know if you have anything. I'm not sure all of what I will be able to do to the motor until I have all the basic stuff I need and sell some more parts. I would like to be able to at least do a B pipe and 9/15 hooker, but I'll have to see. Here are pics of the hull...

Good luck with your build. From my experience, trying to find all those little parts you need becomes a never ending search.

I'm very close to going down a similar route! Like this build thread idea lol! I WILL finish my build though....

Good luck man! Putting all the effort into a "modern" ski will feel rewarding in the end I bet!

I still have one 550 that I will keep as a backup ski and so I have something to ride until I'm done with this ski. I'm really looking forward to this build. I'm expecting a little struggle finding all the small parts, but I'm hoping to be able to get most fairly easily. I just got sick of all the time and money I was dumping into 550s with hardly any results.

I just finished looking through your build thread. You have a nice ski coming together.

I'm trying to come up with a complete list of parts I will need that won't transfer from the vxr pro to the square nose hull. So far I know I will need gas tank, water box, steering cable, mid shaft, and possibly battery box? Are there any major things I'm missing? I'm trying to get all the parts ordered in the next few days so I can get this thing together.

I discovered a crack in my hull today below the bond line on the side of the hull. Looks like I'll have to do a little reinforcing on the engine bay walls.

Nice, now chop the front and hood:biggthumpup: For RN pole you just need a custom bracket the stock RN bracket wont work i tried, buy a RN steering cable.

I might chop it up this winter but I'm going to keep the hull in one piece for now. I will get a rn steering cable. I will have an xmetal bracket that I will try to make work. It seems like the conversion brackets are impossible to find.

Looks like I will have to grid down the ridges on the side of the hull to reinforce where the hull cracked. Im sure that will be fun. Here are pics of it.

i just went through that on my fixed steer build, its messy but other than that it took like 12 mins to get all the ribbs grinded down. Not to terrible.

Yeah I'm just going to go at it with a dremel. It shouldn't be too bad I just wish I didn't have to do any glass work.

a dremmel will work, i used a 4 inch electric grinder.
