image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg All the filling of those old brass screws is done, just a bit of sanding to do. I wanted the glass to sit nice and flat because I'm not filling it after, just going to spray it with paint. For the most part I don't care if it is a bit rough on the bottom, besides they say that adds speed anyways @alex_hockey.

I sealed up the inside corners with come paintable sealant. Gotta love the caulk! I put some heavy beads on it so the glass should sit nice on the inside corners.

Doesn't really matter if the bottom is rough, it only rides on probably about the last 1ft of the sponsons and last 1ft of the transom.

My neighbor helped me flip the hull over couple days ago so I could start the work on the top now that the bottom is done. Got to get rid of this old red paint. Tried a few different things and a good old yellow Richard paint scraper ended up being the tool. A stripping agent probably would have helped but a lot of elbow grease and a few hours I had it gone. As I was labouring on this thing I was thinking to myself about getting into refinishing antique furniture haha. I'm really hoping the paint wasn't lead based because I breathed in a crap load and my shop is covered in it now....I should have been wearing a respirator.

I got a coat of marine epoxy on it to start filling all the big holes from screws and rot that I chipped out. I'll have to fill it again before paint to make it smooth. Hopefully have it in the paint shop next weekend!

I wanted to mock the motor up to make sure there was no major changes I needed to make before I got too deep into rebuilding the transom. Seems to fit good and the cut out clears when it will be turning in either direction. The transom plate doesn't fit now because I laminated the back. I'll cut it apart and weld it so it fits nice and tight again.

I was using hardware store glazing compound for filling until I found out from the neighbor that's Napa sells it aswell. You get 4x the amount for the same price! I was too liberal with the initial epoxy fill, It was a true pain to get it cut down enough to blend it in with the lightweight filler. About 2 hours wasted there.

I was having a hard time seeing the major defects at this point so I primed it after I filled it twice with the glaze. Turned out not bad, some areas to touch up but not bad. I keep on thinking to myself, how far do I take this piece of crap? Do I try to make it a show piece or do I just run it?

Rebuilt the very back of it tonight, I'm not sure what it's called so it will be now known as the swim platform. Jigsaw a piece of cedar deck board to fit it nice, still needs to be trimmed up around the edges and where the motor sits. I'm hungry, till next time!
