The smallest things ruin your season!!!

I figured I would share this fiasco since its turning out to be screwing up my season.

Didnt even really go out to ride, just tuning in the new pipe. Broke the cardinal rule and let go of the ski in the air. Well.....didnt get entirely away from the ski and the tray hit my knee.

I didnt think too much of it. Hell, I walked it off put the skis on the trailer and we went to dinner. I just couldnt get the damn thing to stop bleeding.

When home, iced it up expecting all to be good. Couldnt sleep from the pain and swelling. I thought the bleeding was just from a tear of the skin. It really was from the bone puncturing through.

Went to the emergency room in the morning in search of pain meds.

Ended up in emergency surgery within 30 min of arrival.

I chipped off the end of the knee cap, smashed where the tendons attach.

Had to have the thing cleaned out, holes drilled where existing tendons would be sutured in.

Had to be in the freakin recovery room for two days. Hooked up to morphine like it was some type of water injection. (they forgot to tell me about the, "your gonna $hit like a brick side affects" from the morphine, thats a whole other story in itself.....i would rather not share)

Now, Im posted up off work for six weeks at least and probably off the water for three months. The doc says he thinks I may be ready by august.....F-that! I may just have to tuck my tail between my legs and ride one of the buddies couches this summer.

FML!!!!

I was just getting her dialed in. Pictures are in order of time!

Yummy. Sorry about the season bro....Take it easy and do all of therapy the doctors order. Sucks. Speedy recovery.

you must be a tough mo fo!

Man, I aint tuff. Probably more stupid than anything....I can never tell the difference of when I actually injure myself or just simply hurt myself.

I cried like a baby in the hospital when these two devil &!tches that refer to themselves as physical therapists made me prove to them I knew how to use crutches and a walker, 24 hrs after surgery.

Pain on this one was the worst pain of my life. The day after surgery, I had morphine on demand with a push of a button hooked up to my IV along with perks and muscle relaxers.....all of which still did not stop the pain.

I just think about that one shot of morphine we get in our field kits.......if that is all I have from a major injury...psh.....shoot me like a horse!

i hear ya i blew my knee out in a soccer game and i still finished the game, later that week i needed a kart to play golf with seniors that were walking lol! i think its the adrenaline that does it not so much being stupid

i had knee surgury but it sure didnt look as bad as yours, i hope you get better and get back on you ski man soon

So, you can see the bottom quarter of the knee cap is pretty much shattered gone. The doc said he had to pull all the chips out of there. I guess it is where the tendons were attached. He also said he had to drill all the way through the knee cap and pull the tendons through.....that is where I think all my pain has been coming from.

Best news is.....I should recover 100%. Worst part is....I may have some arthritis when I get older.

Also added a pic of the one week recovery look.

From what I gathered. I guess I broke the cardinal rule......NEVER BAIL...and just go down with the ski. I tried to bail and didnt get away from her. Lesson learned!

Does anybody know of any good knee braces that would work for watersports? Im looking for something that would help me get back on the water at least a few weeks ahead of schedule.

wear a full wetsuit too.

I don't just wear mine for warmth, it's for protection as well. whether from the ski or the marsh/sand i ride near. open skin is easy to break even from impact rather than puncture.

Hope you have a speedy recovery and no permanent damage.

The interesting thing about that is.....I had my full suit ready that day and decided not to wear it. Its a thick one with very minor knee pads in it too. It may have actually helped a bit.

Those knee pads are on them for a reason!!! Even in august I wear a 4/3 with booties, gloves, vest, helmet, and wrestling shoes. In the colder months I throw on the drysuit and or under armor beneath the wetsuit.

I just cant see myself wearing a wetsuit when its 90deg outside. Im just gonna have to ride more conservatively. Im still pretty much a mediocre rider anyway. I can do subs and ride pretty good but, I cant do anything special.

Yeah but that's when you get hurt the worst. Learning the new stuff. I feel like i'm being strangled in that suit in the dead of summer when the water is hot, but like I said it is protection on top of warmth. Even the right 2/3 suit will keep you protected if it has padding in the right places.
