Don't forget OG fred (agustaf). He turns 69 tomorrow...Im not kidding! He was riding before I was born. And his brain if filled with more jetski knowledge than I could ever hope to attain.
He does not hesitate to share his knowledge either! Love Fred. Great guy.

Wetsuit or not, if anyone burned to shore and asked Jay, he would have jumped in to help.

BRAPPY BIRTHDAY FRED!

yepp...i never ride w/o buddies in the ocean. someone will always step up to the plate and give a tow no matter the situation...

everyone knows that one day they'll be in that position...and what goes around always comes around

Very cool, riding buddies deserve a sticky thread on them, not only for rescue but also for what they can teach you about riding, building, etc. If it weren't for that I'd still be on a SeaPoo. But don't discount the couch, it is an awesome way to save your ski, there should be one in every surf group.

my ridding buddies all suck!

j/k, this weekend it seems like we could not keep more than one ski running at a time.

Definitely pack a tow rope EVERY time you go out! If it is a calm day mine is stashed away (but accessible), on days with surf it is around my waist. I have done the "human tow rope" in calm conditions and it sucks. If there is surf, forget about it.

I took half a day off yesterday to ride in the surf ALONE to try out my new footstraps and kept thinking about this damn thread. >:)

The surf was beautiful - 5 feet, probably a 15 second interval and pure glass between. Unfortunately my motor started making a grinding / scrapping noise and my UMI steering came loose so I headed home. Probably God telling me not to riding the surf alone. He could have been more subtle than wrecking my motor though.

Anything special about your towing/limiting rope?
I have thought about that too as well....

Benny

strong and short, big enough carabiners that will not bend when the 2 boats snap back and forth and wont pinch your fingers

long tow rops are for lakes, short ones for the surf.....

you want the boats to travel as one unit and not allow waves to get in between....a short rope will also prevent the slack from getting sucked up in the pump

Yeah and not to diss the Blowsion tow strap but so for this year I have broken 3, One on Frostys, sorry bro, towing fast to get outta there quickly, one in Daytona, and one in VA beach on the 4X4 fuel up cart.:261: Have my own style of tow strap now. A pc of nylon probably works best on the ski.

GREAT points you have there!
The one I use is probably 10 feet long and I have it clipped on the front tray like this:

That is NOT my ski, that is from the Blowsion website, I just wanted to show the set up I run. I am definitely switching now that is for sure.
The only thing if you are towing with a rope that short......make sure you stop slowly....LOL!

Ma squares hood popped off after a particularly steep sub, i was by myself and had 2 swim about 1/4 mile to shore where i stole the first boat i found and franticly paddled back out to a pair of bars and the very back of the tray sticking oot the sea.

After a fairly tough paddle back to shore :)-):):):)ey wee dingy wiv no keel) within 15mins she was running, and i was back on the water

When it happend i proper dunged it tho and a season on it still haunts me, i always carry, a rope, flares, plugs an a way to change them for when it goes "pete tong".

The X has since taught me the way of the hoodstrap, and a hell of a lot more besides :headbang:

Thanks guys:biggthumpup:

yeah, those steel loops are GARBAGE....when they break, they freaking explode...then there is frayed wire on the front of the ski....

I will NEVER use one of those things again.....

yep, the key is when you beach...kick one of your legs out behind you to stop the other boat...have seen people take one square in the lower back and it looked like it hurts!

thats what i do when i pull the x-2 with the gp1200. it works fairly well. i don't know how you would pull it with a stand up tho with a very short rope...

D@mn Tanner, that sounds evil but at least the ski didn't sink.
No doubt, good riding buds are a MUST!

Damn straight they are! Plus, I have leaved a boat load of cool knowledge in the short time I have been here riding in the surf. A lot different than what you need on the river.

When you coming down Mag?

Gonna do my best to go to Tona, how 'bout you?
We'll practice in Jville first, I'll need it 'cus it will be freezing here
by then.

Yep i got to ride on Sunday. It held up great but I think I damaged the nose by doing a nose stab a little too deep. So I mine as well back flip it now since it is going to need to be repaired anyway. Thanks to josh for helping me get it back up and running with his great fiberglass job! Looks like new!

Dan I got your message about the editing. Here is a link that should tell you everything you need to know.

I should be at the spot on Sunday, depends on how worn out I am from the all day tailgating in Jax for the Florida vs. Georgia game. But I was told 4ft at 10 secs...very nice!
