The Wife's new ride.

So, last year while at the beach, my wife informs me that she would really like a ski of her own. I remind her that between Joe and myself, we have a fleet of Waveblasters that are always ready. She reminds me that all our skis are too 'herky jerky' and she can't go cruise around and have fun. She tells me she wants her very own blaster that is basically stock with a pipe. (that is what she had in her SJ) Realizing I had better shut my mouth and do as I am told to keep the peace, I set out in search of a good deal for her. I had bought a blaster from Gary Harris two years ago that had been sitting ever since. Joe had trued the hull for me because it was going to be my spec ski. But, when time ran short, I decided to make this her ski. Over xmas break I was surfing thru Image Pro's website and took one of there kits and started playing with colors for my spec ski. As I am doing this, she walks up and says 'are you designing that one for me? If so, I want it black and pink, that way no guys will want to ride it and you and your brother will leave it alone!' Immediately, I go from thinking I can simply put a motor back in the blue hull I got from Gary to realizing I am going to have to prep, paint, turf and sticker this thing. I already have 4 ski projects underway, so hey, what is one more, right? So, I spend the last two months off and on working on this ski from the ground up. Painted the hull, then flipped it and worked on the top. Last weekend, Joe helped me get it taped and I painted the top and hood sections. I was on vacation this week at the beach, but realizing how much work I had to do, I talked her into coming home on Thursday afternoon. From early Friday morning to this afternoon, I got the ski wetsanded, buffed and polished and stickered (Thanks Casey!). I also got all the external parts back on, even putting the new ODI grips I won at Nationals on there for her. Whenever I am working on one of these damn things I remember how much time it takes to put one back together.

Anyway, after two days work here she is. Next week I am going to add the pump, motor (62t with pro tec pipe, head and breathers) and run the water and fuel lines and hope to have it ready to water test in two weeks. I have to say, I think it turned out pretty nice. After all these years of her putting up with my racing and toys, I guess she was due. Now maybe I can talk her into that convertible I want. :)

I should have put 'watch at your own risk' in the topic header. That is how I ended up starting all this in the first place, lol.

I prepped and painted it, the stickers were a kit that Casey at IPD offers. I just removed the number plate and added the Big Yamaha logos on the hood.

I got the SXR1100's bottom gell coated today and then I started prepping my surf ski for turf. I already got the reinforcing done. I got a crap load of stuff done this weekend, lol. I wish I had another week off.

that looks awesome. im even digging the pink. that is exactly what my girl wanted. a black B1 with pink on it. I guess im not there in our relationship cause she ended up with a black one and neon green design.

That scheme looks awesome! If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

LOL, she's happy, but I am learning that the women aren't any better than us when it comes to the customization bug. Last night she spent an hour on Jettrim's site looking though color schemes trying to find a seat she liked. (The one on the ski is from my Mod ski) She is going to end up as bad as me when it comes to dumping money in these things! :hitwithrock:

Nick,

I wish you lived closer, I have a really cool looking pacific blue I want to put on the 951 B1 we are building. I don't have confidence in my ability to lay it down right without a booth! I guess I am going to have a local ship spray that one for me as I don't need to spend all that money on the paint only to have it all jacked up because of debris in the air. Retorican's skis look really nice!

EXACTLY i can always start a project, but half way through all the prep work, i lose patience and end up rushing through the rest. i just get to a certain point and want it done :banghead:

i do the same thing...

prep is the most pain thing to do but its something that cant be rushed..you can slack more in the paint department than in prep.
