I like a random orbital with 36 grit, grinder with a flap wheel, or a small 90 degree air tool with a sanding disc. Right now I have a crapy air compressor though so I usually stick with the electric tools.

I use a welding rod bent into a j shape in a drill to mix my resin up. Makes 100% sure that its fully mixed up. Give it a few minutes for the air bubbles to disappear after mixing and you'll be good to go.

Yeah I'm using the ratio pumps, I stir it pretty good with a 1/4" or Iil bigger dowel rod, I stir it a good 5 mins really fast, , I have noticed the resin acting a ill different, harder to wet out, and gets thick 2 fast IMO, im useing a solo cup to mix it in, there's other spots that the cf ripped right off, the layer I put on the dash, find a spot along the edge with flat head screw driver, it's peeling right off :dunno:

Might be your pumps man. I have used the 3:1 pumps with no problems. If you have access to a scale or triple
Beam measure it out that way and do a test panel.

Thx guys yeah I'm gonna try doing a test piece, at least try and measure the resin in a mix cup, don't have any scales to weigh it, it was going good till I found this out I was almost done with the classing stage, is it possible to squeegee out too much resin

As previously stated just be sure to scuff the surface really well, clean with acetone and wear gloves. I know that getting the mix ratio exact is pretty critical with epoxy. I try to mix the resin in a paper cup and then after stirring it up really good transfer it to a fresh cup to ensure a complete mix.

I use an electronic food scale and do the ratio by weight and put it in whatever containers I have around and stir it up with the brush I am gonna use.

i use paint ratio cups from my auto paint dealer....the ratios are printed on the side of the cup.i buy them by the case...20 bucks for like 300 of them

use west system next time

solo cups are impregnated with silicone.thats how they pop out of the plastic mold....they are made 5 towns over from me.

never use a solo cup

I always use quart mix cups with the 5:1 ratio that west systems requires, I had similar adhesion issues with pro build brand resin, got it from a friend and I'm sure It had been below freezing in his garage. This is the rule of thumb as with paint, If it freezes its usually no good

coming from WI winter's and laying up an ass load of carbon using the same resin you are last winter I found these steps to work best.

Always kept my resin and hardener in the house.
Filled my sink with hot water and set both jugs in there while I prepped the piece. Getting the resin and hardener warm prior to mixing is more important than trying to keep the work piece warm over night... although I tried to lay up as much as possible when I did my work and kept the garage (or my little booth I made) at 60 degrees or higher.

The pumps are junk. I bought a cheap electronic food scale as other's have mentioned. I weigh every batch I mix up and never had an issue.

You have to babysit carbon, even more so when it is colder out and the curing process slows down. I would check my work every 30 minutes or so for about 3hrs until it really tacked up and held it's shape.

As others have said, good sanding and wipe clean with acetone and you should be good to go. Get the resin warm!

Thx man just layed my test piece, warmed the resin up, warmed the piece up got lights on it hasn't even been an hr topside is barely sticky so it's setting up nicely I think, think the main problems was the pumps, I weighed this batch out, seems like weighing it more resin than there was with the pumps

Sounds like you have the right stuff now. Good luck! It's frustrating (and expensive) when things don't turn out.
