We did the first carbon winged intake tunnel for a 155/162mm pump about 18 months ago where the wing bridged across the entire pump tunnel , I had not seen it done before but doesn't mean it hasn't . Jason Hurt (tricky1) saw the prototype and took pictures of it that he later sent to several builders , I think Xmetal and Bob are using a version of the intake because it is a more efficient way to direct water to the pump . Dose it look like our intake ? Yes,, but most anyone who goes this route with a intake will look somewhat the same . I think this intake is the future for high performance freestyle skis .

Tem,

Great post. From someone with an actual vested interest in the subject.

Billybo, if you really think there is something to your accusation, why don't you guys try doing something that works like :):):):) and see if it gets copied?

bobs gen 1 was unique. The gen 2 was identical to a xfs and the hurricane definitely resembles the freak. All things aside just because they are copying it does not mean it will be better.

Props for setting the new standard Superfreak skis, keep up the innovation.

i think most of the hulls share a little DNA from one another but all there riding characteristics are different therefor making each of them unique .don't get me wrong the freak is no doubt a great ski and design but i think some others have also hit the mark.also i think if people in the hull market were after a freak they would just buy one not one that kind of looks like but rides totally different .as far as who set the standard there are a lot of new grounds being forged and new innovations ,its a good thing..

So what's up with this pump wing all the debate is about? Is it glassed on after or is it somehow worked into the mold?

I know in testing flat water the best intake was no intake, but in chop the best was an aggressive fin. Seems like removing the bars from the intake would improve flow into the pump.

You can't help what you see design wise , but if you get measurements / splash it then go into production that's a different story..... Can't deny this design came from Tem. It should be easy to refute the accusation .... Just sayin

Clayton Jacobson invented the first watercraft and sold the rights to Bombardier, the ski had exposed electronics and did not work out, he then designed a stand up and sold the rights to Kawasaki, they did not deliver what was promised, later he came up with a different design and went to Yamaha with it, that design was the Superjet, so if they look alike there is a good reason, because the same man designed them.I wonder what Clayton would think of this thread ?

It looks like a bob that got more nose rocker. Freaks were the first with nose rocker like that so any ski with that much rocker looks like a freak. I don't believe the hurricane is a freak copy. Does it look similar now? Yes. So does the kdx. Whether or not that is a copy is a more interesting story. But I prefer to assume the best.

I think I was the first to rocker like that many years ago. Looks like the freek copied me ...
