Here's something we can start..
1) stock pulse line rubbing against the rear carb, between my friends and I theres 3 SXR's and all 3 are rubbing. put a shield on the pulse before it rubs a hole .
2) check for air leaks at the mating surface of the crank case. Mine was leaking. rub you fingers over it and if it's oily, it's leaking, and if your engine bed plate is shiny "not from WD-40ing your engine" it's leaking bad.
3) blown base gaskets, that's a common one.
4) Kawai's cheap battery/starter wire terminals. my SXI broke on the negitive side of the battery, and SXR on the positive side of the starter from vibrations and age, lucky the boot protect it from shorting the elec out. Replace all these terminals with heavy duty ones and you'll never have a problem again.
