I am in a hurry, and probably mis-read, but didn't they say the lake was only 3 feet deep and Texaco was drilling it from a platform?

Oh maybe it was a short platform,

but then the platform got sucked down from a three foot lake emptying....

well maybe, I guess the suction of a draining tub is pretty strong in relationship to the amount of water in the tub...

and no one got hurt?

WOW, I guess truth is stranger than fiction?

The lake was previously a three foot (91 cm) shallow fresh-water lake
at the beginning of the article
The event dramatically affected the ecosystem of the lake (both by greatly increasing the depth of the lake from eleven feet to 1,300 feet, and changing the lake from freshwater to saltwater) and the biology
at the end of the article

So which was it.....I think there is some inconsistancy in this story. Remember it's from wikipedia....not necessary always accurate

that has been on the local news. they were acting like they were going to patch the hole.

From my experience in land development, when someone punctures the aquafer it has to be patch with clay but there may be other options. the lake will refill on it's own over time.

i grew up on thay lake. it has happened before in the mid 70's.

they will fix it. the local owners have got plenty of money. bernie little the deceased owner of the Miss Budwieser was one of our neighbors,

that dude had coin. even in the 80's he used to fly back and fourth to work in a bell jet ranger helicopter.

A freind of mine was telling me this story since he works and lives near that lake. He said that there was a big ordeal with the locals that use to enjoy the lake before the developer came in to put up these huge homes and turned it into a private lake by not re-newing the lease on the public boat ramp. Well that pissed off the locals since they no longer had a place to put there boats in and were no longer allowed to use the lake. Well of course the rich folks didn't care since they were cool with having the lake to themselves. Aint Karma a beotch?? Now mother nature has the last laugh and the rich people are stuck with a huge mud pit in there backyard.

Sucks for them.
That's the story I heard at least.
