This why you take stuff to people who know what they are doing.

I had a Seadoo sportster come to put an engine, customer supplied the engine, first off it was a single carb engine so I had to swap his single carb rotary valve cover and carb stuff for dual carb parts. I get the engine in and all hooked up and same deal nothing when you plugged the lanyard up but the programmer wouldn't recognize the MPEM .

The customer of course has no idea because he bought the boat not running and has no prior history on the boat.

I did the same thing you did plugged up a known good DESS post , nothing, checked all the fuses , nothing.

It turns out some idiot had tried and failed to bypass the DESS post on the harness side by skinning insulation off the three wires and twisting all the wires together, of course they did this on the harness side and it was buried deep down in the hull where you had to take the throttle assy. out to find it, then when I did get it cranking it wouldn't rev in gear.

I was thinking it was a bad neutral switch, nope they did the exact same BS on the neutral switch , on the harness side again , if you are going to do crap like this do it on the switch side so the part is replacable instead of jacking up a perfectly good wiring harness, some people are just straight up idiots.

These are two I picked up yesterday , last tagged in 2016, they had wisteria vines wrapped around them so bad it took a chainsaw to cut them loose and about 30 minutes to get the rest of vines off of them , one had a new engine put in and the starter went out, the other one needs four motor mounts and a midshaft, both will need tank cleaning, two new fuel pumps and the injectors pulled and sent off to fuelinjectorman for cleaning.

I have the trailer sold for basically what I bought the skis for, theses will be a minute so I
am not making a thread on them. I rarely take before photos so you can see the starting point on the red one.

It is amazing what a little soap and water and removing some nasty decals will do for the looks on a ski.

I do my own injectors. I did a set for a Chevy 5.3 today. It's a 2500 cargo van I bought that had been sitting about 3 years. It ran very poorly and had 2 completely stuck injectors, and 1 very dirty one. One of the stuck ones freed up with a few screwdriver handle taps while powered up and pressureized. The other one I had to soak in PB Blaster for a few hours, then beat it on my workbench repeatedly to get it to dribble, then backflush , then finally got it going.

I can try it wit a syringe a battery and Berryman B12 but if they don't come around after that I am sending them off for cleaning.

Had one of my guys call in on the radio. Said he smelled a campfire. About 10 minutes later I get a call, from a different guy, that the cart is on fire.

The guy had lowered the bed, with his sweater caught in it. Onto the engine of a toro gtx. He didn't realize the entire time. Someone had to chase him down and tell him it was on fire. That is the caliber of most people nowadays.

As far as labor costs. Maintenance pays just as much if not more. Why would I take a 6 hr job that could potentially go wrong as hell. To make 400 bucks. When I can do 12 oil changes and 200hr services and make triple that in the same time with 10 percent of the risk.

There are guys who have mechanical jobs by trade. 2000+ hours a year. And then there are guys who learn from the internet. And those guys typically don't make as much or know as much.

I am going to soak them in Yamalube carb cleaner for a while , we use to use this stuff at the dealership, it mixes with water and it will even remove fuel stains from needle and seats , it is really amazing stuff and it will not harm plastic, totally noncaustic, after sitting in that for a few days I will use some berrymans and backflush the injectors and probably replace the injector filters.

I got really lucky on the first one someone had drained all the gas out , I siphoned out about 16-20 oz of gas, now I need to inspect the tank tonight with an inspection mirror and a flashlight. The other one the engine has to come out of any way so no biggie there.

The fuel pump may even still be good and I have three skis here that have been sitting 6 years plus, I just need a good fuel pump to test with and four working injectors, I can get three skis running and then replace the pumps , filters and whatever else they need.

I am not spending money on any of these three skis till they crank and run properly.

Second 650SX is done and goes back Thursday morning , 100 pilot jet and all, I have to say for a 650SX with only a choke delete and a K&N it pulls like a freight train, he did change over to a 38 carb on both of these though, still basic black 650's with red heads.

I had a blast riding it today and after doing a series of core strengthening exercises, I was able to get up on it fairly quickly , so I am not throwing in the towel just yet.

I had to pull all the cowlings off then the steering head , all of that so I could access the hole in the top of the tank and retrieve these two rubber snubbers, You can be damn sure I will superglue those onto the module before I drop it back in the tank .

Retrieving those snubbers is kinda like playing the crane game at Wallyworld, it's all good, everything except the trim is now freed up and works properly , I will replace the trim cables later .

I cleaned every piece and the hull as I went, the last time this ski was this clean under there is when it left the factory.

Next up is to reinstall the fuel pump and see what It does, then clean the injectors and see if it will fire up, I changed everything on the red ski to blue because the blue parts are in good shape, all the red parts will have to be repainted, but hey that's a project for another time.
