Those of you that ride alone, do you have a method to protect your ski while your away from it?

Specifically, I'm talking about a public lake and public launch ramp.

I have to drop my ski in the water, tie it to the far side of the dock or beach it nearby the ramp asap to get out of the way of others. Drive up the launch ramp, and park roughly 1200ft away. Then hustle back to my ski. The only measure of security being I take my lanyard with me.
Besides "don't ride alone", what advice can you guys offer.

How do you secure your ski?

if you can't leave your ski alone for the time it takes you to walk 1200ft you need to find another city to move to!

but you're doing right by taking the lanyard.otherwise just do a battery disconnect as there is not much else that can be done short of a lock and a long chain wrapped to something.

Tie her off to the dock with with your tow rope and some fancy knots, so it will at least buy you some time if someone tries to untie her.

I would be more worried about how easy it is to toss one in the back of your truck or suv.
This was more what I was thinking about.
The lake is smaller. With two ramps opposite sides. It wouldn't be hard for one of those shady boaters to see a pretty superjet and decide to tow it to the other side of the lake.
There is a park ranger presence during some peak days. But I only see them when they are harassing me.

If you are worried about someone driving it away, you leave the lanyard on it and disconnect the start side of the switch.

I agree that if you can't walk away from it then it is time to move.

For the trailer, I use python. I keep them in my truck and use them for everything. They can be daisy-chained around big trees, fit very nicely in my camelbak when biking. They fit through my bow eye AND through the tiedowns in the truck AND through the pin holes on my bigfoot beach cart. They are not the beefiest lock you can buy, but they are most certainly the most versitile. I can't believe they are not more popular.

if you have ever tried to tow a superjet with a boat, you'll find out it will submarine hard without someone in the tray. I dont think anyone here has ever had a ski taken from a launch, let alone a boat. the 100K cobalt boats would be more of a reward than risking it over a 5K jetski. I understand your concern, I'm just saying I dont think you need to have it unless you live in a sketchy area thats known for boat thefts.

Now leaving them overnight, I either beach it well in shore or run a chain around the driveshaft to a dock/tree etc.

I think I will look into one of those python type locks so I can latch it to the dock.
The nearest city to the lake happens to be the the #1 from vehicle crime in the US.
I don't disagree about the moving thing. Once I am done with my degree, I am likely leaving CA. But till then...

Better to stay there and make a career where it's stupid expensive but pay is relatively high, and retire like a king in a less expensive community.

Different situation, at my lake I'm not quite waterfront but always find kids or shoe prints in the tray. Built my own double wide boat lift and leave it in a foot of water. On busy weekends I lock my skis to it overnight, the skis are 3 feet up when on the lift, nobody has gone in and touched them in 2 years.

Just leave your vest and lanyard with the ski. Who are you to deny anyone the fun of going for a rip?

On a serious note, I'll leave mine like that almost anytime if I'm relatively close by or not gone for too long.

Well it's a moot point till I get a new gas tank.
I'm kinda surprised that no one has had a ski stolen from dock. Don't get me wrong, that's great news. Just surprising.
Being that I've had people break into my unlocked vehicle and steal broken radios and a pair of boots. A purdy lone superjet seems vulnerable.

Just use a beach tote. Then lock the tote to something. Those things will walk away. If something doesn't feel right, protect your stuff. It always happens when you are least expecting it.

Id say a ski sitting on a public launch by itself thats noisy and in a marina, slow, is too obvious vs. a unlocked car you can quiets slip in and out of in seconds.

Maybe they lost their shoes on the boat and just needed to walk across the hot pavement. They were going to thank you by fixing the radio, but you had already left by the time they got back. They are probably out there looking for you right now. You should post on Craigslist under missed connections.
