Threebond 1184 vs 1211

Hey yaw,

So what's everyone's opinion on Threebond 1184? I really want to use it over the 1211 since it is meant for case sealant and has better resistance to fuel than 1211, but when i tried it the other day, it seemed like it almost dried out faster than i could get everything assembled.

I only use 1184. i don't know who started using 1211 for case sealant as it is not designed for that application. 1184 does tack up quickly but if u prep your assembly you have time. i assemble the crank in the top half of the cases with seals. then apply a thin layer of 1184 and drop the bottom cases on.

Yea that was pretty much my plan. I did a dry fit yesterday and marked all of the bearings, so i know where they line up with the pins. I would still like to find some way to roll it on since that is the fastest way but when i did a trial run yesterday i still was running into issues where it would peel up in blotches as i rolled it.

Been using 1184 for almost 30 years now and all the previous names 1104, 1104D.
It is the same as PermaTex MotoSeal, Yamabond, Kawachem, HondaBond and is the correct stuff for cases.

I use small wooden medical swab sticks, think of a long q-tip stick but wood. I spread an even thin coat to both case halves then assemble. You don't really have to worry about it drying out fast so take your time to get it correct, remember, it is semi-drying so you are fine.

1211 is great for gaskets and o-rings if you are having air leak issues. Again, just a very thin coat, also helps if in a pinch reusing carb base gaskets.
