You will have to remove the front cover from the engine (flywheel cover), remove the flywheel and then loosen the bolts and turn the stator by 3 degrees. Easy to say, not necessarily easy to do, especially if you don't have the right tools but it is free as long as you don't mess anything up like the gasket for the flywheel cover.

Special tools will include a flywheel puller and something to keep the engine from turning.

me being me i would get some 1 to advance the timing 4 me because i dont no what im doing, but you can use a impact hammerdrill to remove flywheel bolt with out anything holding engine(just dont tigthen it with the impact as you will snap the bolt, like i did and its not 2 funn)

I got plenty of tools and can rent the puller.. but are there timing marks to measure advance and retard with direction is which

What if you advance 4-5 degrees, is it safe with higher octane fuel and noticeable over 3 degrees?

It's too much timing, it will be 25 deg at rev limit. Would be ok for low end but you'd have to ride responsibly and so would anyone riding your ski and it seems they all ways want to hold it wide open
